While Raea was insanely grateful for the fact that she got a job, she was even more happy that she was working off campus, and it gave her time away from her classwork and friends and professors breathing down her neck. Usually the fledgling loved school but lately it just felt like a distraction from a bigger problem. And it was, Raea was using school and work as a distraction. She couldn't sleep at night, and when she did she had nightmares which woke her up so often she might as well not sleep at all.
That's not to say she didn't get relief sometimes. She sometimes slept entire days away when her body was exhausted enough. She didn't have a roommate anymore, nobody to really make sure she was sleeping well. Cris was off in her own little world, she was still unsure if Li was still her friend, and Ki just came back from Japan and she really didn't want Ki to help with that. Instead she just read until she passed out and she usually read a really boring book to make sure she slept without any dreams. Exciting books kept her imagination awake, which meant awful, terrible dreams.
And now Raea got a job at Phuri Tezauriza, an antique shop that opened up in town. The owner, from her few talks with her when applying for the job, was really nice, and she was excited to work with her. She loved history and loved learning about any era that an object was from. She was currently polishing a silver pocket watch that seemed to be from the early 1900s, but honestly Raea couldn't be sure. It was just another distraction, something to keep her mind busy. She couldn't afford to think about that nightmare house, or the man that lived there. She just didn't want to deal with the flashbacks.
She shook her head and finished shining the watch before seeing if the old thing actually worked. She opened it up and frowned a bit when she saw that the watch was stuck at 10:19. It was a nice watch, maybe she'd buy it for her father for his birthday. She shrugged and placed the watch back on the shelf behind the counter. She carried the box of cleaning and polishing supplies back to its spot and rubbed her eyes. Goodness she was tired. Raea looked in an old mirror and sighed in relief. Her makeup didn't smudge to show the dark circles under her eyes.
Was that what her life resorted to? Makeup tricks and lies about how she felt? She sighed, a part of her hoping that this was all a bad dream, ironically enough, and that she'd wake up and everything would be perfectly fine and happy.
She heard what sounded like her boss walking back into the front of the store and she jolted as if someone woke her suddenly, or if she was dozing. Was she dozing? Goodness she needed more sleep. She looked over at Char and gave the woman a smile, not quite genuine, as it seemed to never quite reach that point. "I finished -yawn- excuse me, cleaning and polishing everything like you asked." She told her boss, trying to mentally slap herself awake.
Words: 546
Muse: Picky and sleepy and rambling, she tends to ramble if she doesn't get sleep.
Comments: I didn't want to make it TOO long because you've got work and I wanted to keep things short for you <3 feel free to ignore the word count and continue longer.
