Willow Serenity Andromida was pouting.
She was bored. And she didn’t know where Aoife was. She sat cross-legged in the middle of the room that they shared, wondering where her twin was and why she was sitting here all alone. Willow had lots of friends! Didn’t she? So why was she all alone right now in the middle of a Saturday with nothing to do? She couldn’t bug Daddy because he was busy being important and running the world they lived in, and she couldn’t find her twin, so where did that leave her? All alone with nothing to do at all. This wasn’t okay!
She pouted more.
She was wearing her pretty rainbow striped dress, and her pretty rainbow sneakers, and her hair was clipped back with rainbows. And it was brushed all nice and pretty too. She had her sketchbook sitting in front of her but there was nothing she could do with it. She was not in the mood to draw for the first time in her life. She was just pouting. There was nothing for little Willow to do today. She was all alone and she hated that.
She had made friends over the years, lots of friends! But they were off doing big kid stuff. She wanted to do big kid stuff too. Or adult stuff like working, which was boring. If she was able to, Willow would probably throw a very loud temper tantrum right about now, but she couldn’t. She was mute. So she couldn’t even scream, well she could but that hurt her voice! The little girl was not having a very good day despite her very colorful outfit. It was so sad, she couldn’t match the cheerfulness of her favorite thing! She was usually so good at that! Willow loved rainbows so much, and it was a very rare moment for the little girl to actually not be happy.
Willow was one of those people who refused to let things get her down. She preferred to be positive all the time. She was one of those people who preferred to always find the silver lining. But today she was having trouble with that for one of the first times of her life. She just wanted to be around someone else, but she couldn’t do that if no one was around! It was such a terrible puzzle.
She stood with an uncharacteristic sigh and looked around her room. There was nothing interesting in here. She had all the stuff she could possibly want, but she didn’t want stuff, she wanted people. Willow didn’t like to watch TV, that wasn’t her thing, and she didn’t like to go on electronics because she preferred to color and paint and sketch. She would, of course, because she loved Disney. But she wasn’t even in the mood for that! There was something horribly wrong with her today!
She stomped her little foot, feeling very discouraged with herself. She was not a happy camper today, no, not at all. She wanted something to do and nothing was coming to present itself. She was only seven after all, she couldn’t handle everything for herself! What was she supposed to do! She was just a little girl. It wasn’t like she could drive herself places.
She pouted and then turned on her heel. She was going to ‘splore. That usually amused her at least. When nothing else could catch her attention, Willow could always find herself entertained by looking around in places that she wasn’t supposed to be. It was her special talent to find these places and figure out everything she wanted to about them. And she never even got in trouble because she was special around here, Daddy protected her. She loved him. She nodded. She would explore. It was set then.
She left her room, which was something she often did because her poor room rarely got as much use as it should despite the fact that the room that she and her twin shared was huge and elaborate. She wandered out into the hallway and started to explore a little. She looked around, trying to find secret little hidey holes that she hadn’t found before or people talking so she could snoop and see what they were talking about. But it seemed really quite around the Citadel today, which was something the little girl wasn’t used to.
When she was alone she always got really upset. It made her think of bad things she had pushed away to the back of her head and stopped talking to make sure that they never came out. She didn’t like this. The little girl started to sniffle, not feeling too happy.
But Willow never cried! She wasn’t going to cry! She wasn’t. She sniffled some more and willed the tears to go away, to go far, far away. She didn’t want to cry. Willow was a big girl. She never acted like a little baby. There was no reason for her to be crying like a little baby just because she was alone.
She turned the corner and saw a very familiar figure in the hallway in front of her. She started to cry then. Finally! there was someone she knew! She launched herself down the hallway and into the library after where the person had disappeared into, happy to not be alone anymore. She didn’t even care what they did, she was just overjoyed to have found someone. She just hoped they weren’t as busy as everyone else around her seemed to be. Too busy to play with little Willow

An alarm began buzzing and a quick hand shot out to silence it. A man rolled in a large bed, hand wrapped around his cell phone. Ezra sighed and stared up at the ceiling. It was just after five and it was time for him to get up. With a stretch, he removed himself from his all too comfortable bed and shuffled into the bathroom. Showers always woke the man up. So did coffee. Which was why he was sitting at his table, wrapped in a towel, drinking coffee and skimming the morning paper. It mostly seemed like he was perpetually exhausted. With being an active vigilante late at night, and work, it seemed like there wasn’t enough time for Ezra to get a good nights sleep these days. Ten minutes later he was dressed and ready to go. He slid into his car and went to have an ordinary day at work.
Work was work, the same as always. When his break rolled around, Ezra headed to the library. He was happy on the inside of course, but he kept a professional demeanor. That was something Ezra was excellent at -- staying professional. He didn’t find it difficult at all, on the contrary, it was natural for him. After so many years... watching countless people die in too many wars, making friends with humans and just watching them wither away with time... being professional and having as few emotions as possible was easy. Ezra turned a corner and entered the library, inhaling the smell of books. The vast collection was something he often visited when his own couldn’t satisfy him.
A woman examining a book smiled at him, and Ezra smiled back. “Good afternoon,” he said to her promptly before he started meandering through the various shelved books. He picked out one and opened it to the first page and started reading. It was quickly replaced, however, as it wasn’t the book for him. There was a quiet, muffled, beep that came from his pocket. Ezra pulled out his cell phone and looked at the thing. The text was unimportant, and it was ignored for the time being. Had it been from one of his siblings or his mother, Ezra would have taken the time to reply right away -- he was on break after all. He kept in close contact with most of his family members, though not while he was working. His family was important to him. It was, quite possibly, the most important thing in the world for Ezra.
Although there were many important things to him, there was definitely a hierarchy to it. And the monarch was certainly nowhere to be found on said list. Ezra pulled out another book and skimmed the first page. After a second he replaced it -- he had already read that one. It was sometimes tiring, being ageless. The movies and books that they produced these days were wholly lacking compared to the excellent novels and films of the past. Oh, and not to mention the music. Now, it was all about a fast beat. There was almost nothing beautiful about music of this day and age. Honestly, he really disliked this era’s taste in music. It just didn’t move him -- something Ezra felt music should do.
The door opened to the library, and Ezra snapped out of his thoughts. He glanced over quickly, but returned to the book in his hands after he saw the little girl. He let a small sigh escape him before the book was put back and he walked further into the shelves. After a few moments he settled in another section and started examining books from it, hoping to find just the right one.

Willow was close to tears. Which really was nothing like the little girl who was nearly so upbeat, so happy, so quick to immediately smile and make friends with absolutely everyone who was around her. Usually she was quick to grin, quick to smile and go right up to people. But today was just not a happy day for Willow, it hadn’t been a happy day for a while now either. She had been having a sad time of it these days that was making the usually upbeat seven year old positively gloomy.
She woke up to find her sister not there. But of course, her sister was sick. She barely saw her and that was part of what was so upsetting to the little blondie. She was a twin, not spending time with her other half always made her feel upset, broken. She missed her if she wasn’t around for an hour, what would a few days do to her? Exactly what everyone was seeing in the lack of a cheerful smile brightened across her face.
With Willow and Aoife, it was almost more than them just being twins. Aoife was the only person who could hear Willow. Normally AOife had to touch people to hear their thoughts but Willow’s were always open to her sister as long as they were near to each other. It meant that the mute girl had someone that could always hear her voice. It didn’t bother her much to be mute, she was usually an upbeat sort and she had learned other ways of getting her thoughts across to other people and making sure they knew what she wanted to say when her sister was around. But not having that release of her sister? Not having the one person who knew her inside and out around? Was it really any wonder that she was upset and lonely?
She left her room, tucking her sketchpad under her arm, and walking out into the hallway. For the time, it was surprisingly quiet around the Citadel that was Willow’s home and had been as long as she could remember. That did not improve her unhappy mood, she thought, no definitely not .She huffed and kept walking, trying not to think about such things as her missing family who were usually such a warm spot for Willow, usually kept her in her happy self. She just missed them very much.
Her daddy was busy, he was usually busy. Her big brothers and sister were off doing what they did to help Daddy or just being off running their own lives. Her twin was off being sick which made Willow very sad. And her Charlotte was likely off running her shop, which made Willow miss her most of all because Willow usually visted Charlotte when she was feeling lonely but she didn’t feel like leaving home today. As expansive as home was for the little silly girl.
She brightened, considerably, as she noticed someone that she thought she knew as soon as she turned the corner. Well that was a good thing! Her tears started to brim up, this time from relief. She hoped that they weren’t busy like everyone else was it seemed! She ran off that way, disappearing into the library after the person that she thought she knew had. She looked around but saw that she didn’t actually know this person at all. She sighed. Well…well…well…
She didn’t much approve.
She sighed sadly and looked around. Usually Willow enjoyed coming to the library, she would sit in a corner and read fairy tales that other people who came in would point out to the little Princess, or she would do her sketching here where there was no one to interrupt her from it, hoping to snatch a smile from the little cutie. She could do her “work” uninterrupted here. But that asn’t what she wanted today. She had come in here trying to find the person she ahd seen that she had thought she knew!
She frowned and walked over to one of the expansive and comfortable old seats that sat near the door, those so people could read. There was a fireplace next to the one that she had chosen, one she had often drawn before or drawn in front of, but she didn’t much notice it today. She knew there were also desks further in but she didn’t want to go further in. With a noiseless sniffle the little girl scooted further back in her chair. Today just wasn’t’ going her way, was it? She wished she hadn’t ditched her guards so quickly. At least they could usually make her smile by pretending she had lost them—she could if she tried but sometimes it was just fun to play the game like that with them.
She just felt so lonely today.
