Charlotte, for her situation, couldn't remember a time where she had been more excited, more happy. She was sitting in the middle of the biggest, grandest library she'd ever seen. Filled with books upon books upon books of everything and anything and she'd just about fainted the first time she'd seen it. It'd take her years, a lifetime and more, just to get half of the library done she was sure, but she had years. What else was she to do? She was human, and a pet at that. The idea was uncomfortable still, considering she hadn't been a pet for long, and honestly who could ever get comfortable when your life was dictated by the whims of a vampire? And apparently not just any vampire either, but the monarch. Their leader. The first time she'd met him, she'd never been more intimidated in her life. She was a small woman, someone who wasn't capable of confrontation or even being more than a quite mouse in the corner.
So when she'd been taken to the citadel and then shown the library, well she'd just about sagged in relief. Books were a life line for her, they were a safety net and she could just feel a lot of her anxiety and fear washing away as she took in the massive amounts of books. She'd been in the citadel a while now, and she'd worked up a routine. She spent most of her time in the library, though she'd been found out by the Monarch's daughter, Willow, and the two had quickly become friends. Willow didn't mind her more quiet nature, and Charlotte was relieved that there was such lightness where she'd been forced to go. She enjoyed spending time with the little girl, who was prone to drawing and who she was slowly learning sign language for. She'd always wanted too, and now that someone she primarily spent her time around would benefit from such a practice she'd gone about teaching herself as best she could.
When not with the little girl, Charlotte could almost always be found in the library. Sometimes she even fell asleep in there, curled up in one of the big chairs with an open book in her lap, not being able to keep her eyes open any longer to read whatever fantastic tales the book had to offer her. Which was where she was currently, tucked in a corner of the library with a book open on her lap, her lids drooping down though she continued to dutifully read each line on the page. The sun fell through the window pane in the late afternoon sky, giving some warmth to the small woman curled against the chairs high back. This was about as relaxed as she'd been, the whole being captured and thrown into the middle of the vampire's capital was a bit draining on her nerves to say the least. She already was a scared rabbit, no need to throw in a towering monarch or the fact that just about everyone around her were vampires.
So the mere fact she'd been allowed into the library, to read at her leisure was a great relief. She'd probably go out of her mind if she didn't have the comfort of the books to pacify her, to calm her and bring her to another place that wasn't this scary reality. She was prone to giving into her fear, she'd never had to deal with this kind of fear before and it liked to run rampant in her. She was a quiet creature, one prone to compliance rather than any sort of rebellion, and she'd done everything they told her to do. But it still didn't soothe the fear that she'd felt. Not until she'd gotten a look at this place, seen the massive amounts of books then she'd let herself relax, especially when she'd actually gotten to go in and explore the library. She'd decided she hadn't ended up in such a bad place, she was relatively comfortable when she was in the library with a book in her lap.
She wondered what had happened to her family but she was too afraid to ask, not to mention she was probably sure they wouldn't have any idea who she was talking about. She'd been doing laundry at the river, for all she knew they could have escaped and gotten away. She wished they did, for all that they burdened her with the things they didn't want to do, they were still her family and she wished that they wouldn't have to go through the same fear and confusion that she went through during her capture. She wouldn't wish it upon anyone and she'd gladly go through it again if it meant her family was safe and sound. She wasn't hurt and she'd found herself in a decently comfortable place. Sitting in a very comfortable chair in a library that was so huge, filled with so many books, she couldn't very well complain about her life. She was alive, and safe for the most part.
