Willow absolutely could not stand her lessons. She found her tutor to be boring and he always made her want to fall asleep! Plus, he was worse at sign language than she was—and that was saying something because the soon to be eight year old barely knew enough to get by, just the basics so far which Angelo and Daddy had been helping her to learn slowly. She just found it not to be entertaining at all and she couldn’t stand it. Plus, lately Aoife was off visiting another sector for camp and that left Willow all on her own!
So without her twin to talk to telepathically through class, Willow found it to be even more intolerable! She didn’t want to sit through it, not one moment of it. So often when someone came to take her to class she would hide under her bed—Willow was an early riser so she was always up before they came to wake her for lessons. Or she would make sure she was out and going somewhere else before they even could come to get her. Today was one of those days.
Willow had certain places that she liked to go when she was avoiding lesoons. And her absolute favorite place to go was to go and see Miss Charlotte. Charlotte was one of Willow’s most favorite people ever. And thus, Willow went to see her a lot, whenever she got the chance to! Why not? Charlotte never treated her like a silly little girl, and she always had such wonderful things in her shop to look at, it was always much more interesting for Willow.
So Willow had gotten up even earlier than usual, and gotten dressed in something pretty. Her blue and green dress, today. With the pretty green bow that brought out the green in her gray green eyes. And the pretty shoes that her Daddy had gotten for her the other day, or gotten someone to get for her really. Prince Charming, or Char as she called him, was then tucked onto her shoulder where the silly ferret disappeared into her hair because he was a scaredy cat, and she was good to go! Or, rather, she was good to go as soon as she grabbed her sketchpad, which was quickly tucked into her bag so that way she could escape before Daddy’s guards came to get her.
She loved going to see Charlotte for many, many reasons. One of them was that she enjoyed seeing what it was that Charlotte could show her. It was always so interesting! So many things were so pretty and had seen such pretty things. Willow didn’t realize that she was learning so much more than little girls her age could by seeing these things. She didn’t realize that Char was slowly tutoring her in these things, as she missed her lessons. But that was for the best, wasn’t it? It was the best way to learn, when you didn’t think you actually were.
Willow also didn’t know that people, like her adoptive father, actually knew where she was. It was probably the only way that she was able to keep coming without anyone finding her. But half the fun of it for her was that in going, it was like she was escaping and she was having an adventure in sneaking out of the citadel and into the sector itself, which she didn’t often get to do on her own just because it wasn’t safe or something silly like that, well at least she thought it was silly.
Willow’s affinity—that she didn’t realize she had—also let her draw everything that she saw in Charlotte’s affinity perfectly, letting the little girl draw things that she couldn’t have possibly seen with such accuracy it could baffle any that didn’t know what Willow could do. Willow enjoyed being able to draw those things though! She thought it kept it real, kept it fresh in her brain. It was wonderful and she enjoyed it almost as much as seeing the things themselves. She happily skipped down the sidewalk thinking these things, turning down onto the proper street.
She didn’t remember how she had first met Charlotte, but that wasn’t important. What was the most important was that she had! And now she was there! Willow beamed and opened the door, slipping into the shop. She looked around once, peeking at this and that, before she made her way over to the counter that she barely could see over the top of and peeked up, on her tiptoes, to look over it with a big grin on her face and a mischievous little glint in her eyes. Oh how she loved sneaking out of her lessons. Even if she didn’t know, well, she wasn’t exactly.

Cool air was dragged into her lungs, bringing another rush of relief as she exhaled, her breathing steadied, if not labored. The morning air was cool, something she was thankful for as she glanced down the road, before heading across the pavement. She was on her morning run, the morning light just starting to illuminate the city. She liked when it was quiet out yet, when the world was hushed and cool, when she could go out and hear the early birds chirping, her steady, labored breath, the sound of her small feet striking the pavement below. She was heading back home so she could shower and go down to her shop, a place she loved so dearly. Each object held within the shop's walls was another adventure, another tragedy, another glorious past filled with different scenarios. Charlotte enjoyed many things about her store.
The thing she loved the most besides seeing the past? Finding the treasures themselves. If there was one time in which there could be any sort of assertiveness or signs of belligerence, it was when she was trying to get an object she really wanted. Bartering was something she was actually good at, she could usually tell how to deal with someone, if they only needed gentle persuasion, or if she needed to push them. It was hard to find her being belligerent or assertive in other situations, where she was content to remain in the background. Charlotte let out a sigh as she traveled up to her apartment building, unlocking her door and stepping in. She was, as always, immediately attacked by a red furball. The little fox that she'd taken in nearly five years ago was always something that brought a smile to the woman's face.
She leaned down to run her fingers over the fox's head before shutting her door and letting out a loud sigh, trying to get her breath less labored and her heart rate down. She slipped her shoes off before moving into the kitchen, stopping to grab some food for Rhett and feeding him before grabbing a bottle of water. Taking a drink from it as she walked towards her bedroom she mentally ran through the things she needed to do for today. There were several items in the back that needed to be repaired, she needed to call someone, a contact she relied on, to try and set up a meeting with the owner of a very nice looking vanity dressing table from about the seventeenth century. It was in wonderful shape and Charlotte was eager to get her hands on it, see what secrets it held.
She hummed to herself lightly, stepping into her bathroom and shedding herself of the clothes she wore on her run, leaning in to start the shower. Finding the heat satisfactory she stepped in, sighing as the warm water hit her muscles, which she was sure to be slightly sore later. The shower was short, for which she was a bit unhappy with, but she had obligations and so she stepped out of the shower to wrap a towel around her. Moving into her bedroom she pulled on clean clothes, a pair of jeans and short-sleeved shirt, nothing fancy. Simply something comfortable. It didn't take her long before she had her hair dry and the slight curls tamed into a loose bun. She slipped on another pair of shoes, scooped Rhett up in her arms and stepped out of her apartment, locking the door behind her.
The walk to her shop wasn't very long and at one point she had to set the wiggling Rhett down on the ground. She'd been rather surprised how easily he'd been trained, rather responsive to her moods and actions Rhett was very much well trained. A smart little guy Charlotte had easily gotten him to listen to her commands. He didn't stray far from her, especially when she corrected him with a soft 'Come here Rhett'. They arrived at her shop and she unlocked the door, pushing it open so the little red fox could shoot into the back, making a beeline for his favored spot up front in front of the counter, eager to watch the door. Charlotte bustled around, adjusting a few things before opening her shop. Wandering back into the back she settled down into the stool sitting in front of the work table she had several things laying on.
Rhett would inform her if anyone came into the shop, as he usually did while she worked in the back. It was a little while later when Rhett's excited yipping reached the back, making Charlotte blink in surprise. Usually the little fox wasn't so vocal about those who came in her shop, which meant it was a very select few. She smiled lightly as she hopped off her stool, she had a very good feeling about who it was who had come into her shop. Rounding the corner out of the back her soft smile became a full blown grin as she saw Willow. "Willow, visiting again?" She moved over to the little girl, leaning over the counter to look at her. "Did someone skip their lesson today?" Charlotte didn't really condone Willow skipping her lessons, but she didn't blame the young girl.
Charlotte hadn't exactly had the most standard education, she learned everything as she went, by doing things, reading books, things of that sort. She fully realized that Willow was skipping out on her lessons, and that her father, Laevinus, would not be very happy about that. However, she also knew that the best kind of learning came from doing things, learning as you go. Learning without knowing you are. So she did her best to teach Willow what she'd miss in her lessons. It helped that she'd spoken with Laevinus about it, and he'd taken to informing her what exactly it was Willow was to be learning that day. Charlotte did her best to incorporate that in the time Willow spent with her. Words: 1007 Tag: Willow Notes: FINALLY got it out AND HOLY SHIT THAT WORD COUNT

Willow did not like her lessons. Especially if Aoife wasn’t there to distract her and keep her company while they chatted telepathically. Her sister made everything better if they could talk and be together, or even just be twins with each other. She missed Aoife. Anyway, without Aoife, if she had to pay attention, well, she found it really boring. Her tutor was no good, he was boring and he made everything boring and so she didn’t want ot have to deal with that! So she often didn’t, she often instead hid under her bed when she had to be taken to class or she went out the door before they could catch her.
Her tutor was just boring, he droned on and on. And so far no one had caught Willow, no one had told her she wasn’t allowed to do that, that she wasn’t allowed to run away from her lessons like she did so she just kept doing it! She giggled silently at that thought, she would keep doing it too. Maybe then daddy would get her a new tutor who knew how to be something other than old and boring. So he had seen it all, so? He still made it all boring.
Char did it better, she did it so much better! Even if she couldn’t show Willow anything it was still made to be better, because she was better at telling the stories in a way that Willow enjoyed and wanted to listen to and she actually paid attention to Willow, which the tutor didn’t do. He paid attention to Aoife because she was the one who could talk and that wasn’t something she liked to deal with, she hated when people pretended she wasn’t there just because she couldn’t talk.
Willow didn’t realize that she was actually learning when she went to go see Char. She may or may not have bothered to keep going if she had learned that she was learning. She might have still gone just because she loved Char so much, she was one of Willow’s all time favorite people! But it was still a good thing that, for now, Willow had no idea how much she was learning on those little visits that she paid to Charlotte, usually whenever she was skipping out of her lessons, because it took her out of the Citadel, away from being dragged back to her learning.
Willow popped into the shop that she could meet Char in, it was her shop after all, and happily skipped over to where the counter was, peeking up and over it even though she barely could see over it! Willow was still pretty short, she had only just turned eight after all on July fourth. She grinned when looking up she saw that it was Rhett, the little fox who she entirely thought was adorable and gorgeous, on the counter. Char, her ferret not the person, ducked back into her hair entirely, being totally nervous about being around the fox but Willow just thought he was being silly.
Rhett yipped and Willow started to giggle silently. She enjoyed the fact that he was yipping, it was such a fun sounding sound to her. She grinned and peeked up, watching Rhett yip until the person that she had come to see came out from the back! Willow grinned and waved when she saw Char appear from behind the back of the store. She was grinning because she knew this meant she might actually have some fun today and not have to slink back to her lessons disappointed.
She adored Charlotte. Char listened to her, actually listened to her, despite the fact that she was mute and couldn’t actually make any noise to be listened to. It was the same difference, Char paid attention to her and didn’t treat her like a little girl that should just be smiled at and patted on the head, pretending to be all oh you’re so smart sweetie, wait what did you say? Willow shook her hea dnad just grinned, that wasn’t important because Char always actually listened to her so she was in good company here!
Char asked if she was skipping her lessons again today and Willow smiled shyly and tilted her head slightly. She held up her thumb and pointer finger apart from each other just an inch, as if to say maybe a little bit? The smile was innocent but there was a hint of mischief in it that she couldn’t deny. She always came here when she was skipping her lessons, she was just glad that Char didn’t send her back to it. She smiled widely and bounced. She signed one of the few things that she actually knew how to sign, in answer. *How are you today?* she asked with a little silent giggle. Instead of actually answering the question. Of course she was!

Charlotte had most certainly found a sort of schedule for herself throughout the week. Get up early in the morning for a run, go home, eat breakfast, go to work, then go back home. It was a repeated process that had become habit for her. Uninterrupted for the longest of times. Occasionally she'd venture out into the city for one reason or another. Perhaps there was an event at the museum or a showing at the art gallery. She very much enjoyed going to the museum as there were things there that she'd never quite be able to get her hands on. It was a frustrating sort of enjoyment, knowing that a rich multitude of histories lie within inches of her eager fingers yet she'd never be able to. Her schedule hardly seemed to change, no matter the years that would go by or the events that happened. She'd settled in the city and started her schedule and that was that.
Yet now she found her schedule changing quite a bit. And the reason was because of a certain Monarch. Her normality had been disrupted not the moment the Monarch had walked through the door, but the moment she'd found the sword, the moment she'd decided to bring it back to her shop, to clean it up, to see the secrets that it held within it's past. Not only had she invaded Laevinus' past, she'd seemed to attain his interest. Which was fine by her as long as he let her rummage through the many objects that he had around the Citadel. While exploring the many different objects she'd met Willow, Laevinus' adopted daughter. She immediately took a liking to the young mute girl, and who wouldn't? It was rather pleasing that Willow found Charlotte good enough company.
Charlotte had been rather surprised the first time Willow had skipped her lesson in favor of spending time in her shop with her. She'd been completely happy to indulge the young girl, and when she found out that Willow was skipping lessons she made an effort to make up for what time Willow was loosing by skipping her lessons. Without Willows knowing of course. Charlotte had found that Willow was absolutely thrilled when she could see the past like Charlotte could, so Charlotte had been working very hard on her affinity, on the aspect of bringing someone else with her, and she'd started to fit where and when she took Willow to what Willow was suppose to be learning that day. Sometimes it was a bit of a challenge, finding suitable era's or events that would best represent the lesson for the day.
She'd asked Laevinus if she could know what the lesson plans were for each day, explaining that she felt Willow would learn more if she didn't realize she was learning. If it was working, well Charlotte wasn't too sure yet, but she knew that she was having a fantastic time spending time with the other girl. The woman laughed lightly as Willow answered her question, showing with her fingers that she was, just a little bit though. The woman walked around the counter to where Willow was, kneeling down so she was more Willows height. "I'm well, how are you?" She smiled brightly at Willow. "So, would you like to see what I'm working on today?" She always tended to get started with the pretense that she was showing Willow something she'd been working on. Which in all honesty was true, Charlotte usually pulled something out that was in need of repair. Words: not gonna even bother Tag: Willow Notes: horridly horrid horribleness.

Willow absolutely adored Charlotte’s company. Why? Well why not! Char was a fun person if you asked Willow. For one, she never treated Willow like she was a little girl like other people did, and she never talked really loud like some people did when they found out she was mute. Or slower. She was mute, not deaf but most people didn’t seem to be able to realize that. Anyway. She adored Char because she talked to Willow like a person. Not like a princess, or a mute, or a child but a person.
She also was warm and genuine to Willow, and Willow adored that. The young girl could barely remember her birth mother but she thought that that was what a mother would be like, which was one of the many reasons that Char’s sign, for Willow, for her name, was the sign for C along with the sign for mother. Willow quite enjoyed her cleverness on that one, though Willow often enjoyed things, she was a happy sort, quick to grin and laugh at almost all times because she was just…Willow. Sweet and innocent to the tee, or so it was said about her anyway.
She also enjoyed spending time with Char over going to lessons. Sometimes she would sit through them if Aoife was around, but lately Aoife had been sick so Willow had been going on her own. All on her own. And the tutor was no fun, he just droned on and on and Willow was so bored and she just couldn’t take it .So, even some days when Aoife wasn’t sick and could go, Willow had taken to playing sick or hiding and sneaking out to going to go see Char instead. She preferred spending time with Char.
Char could take her places! Far away places that were so wonderful! She loved seeing the balls best of all, it reminded her of the balls here, they were so elegant and oh so wonderful. She wanted to waltz around and dance with them too! But she also liked just about everything Char had to show her. And there was always something new for her to see because Char was always working on something new, some new wonder for Willow to see, and she liked hearing about what she was seeing, because that just made her understand it and that made it better.
Not that Willow knew she was learning of course. IF she had known, would she keep going? Likely but she would also be much more stubborn and refuse to see things on principle even though she quite enjoyed seeing things. It was just how she was, she had learned it from her Daddy. She was generally a bubbly sweetheart but she and her twin sister, well, they most certainly had a stubborn streak a mile wide and everyone that met them realized that sooner or later. So it was for the best that Willow had no idea that she was learning at all.
She was now with Char and she was so happy about it! Why wouldn’t she be? She grinned and signed, asking Char how she was. Willow was always so proud of herself when she got to sign, and when she got to show off that she knew a bit of sign. She was learning slowly with her big brother, and sometimes she found it easier to just write what she wanted to say or draw it or act it out but she had to agree that learning sign language was probably a better idea. She just didn’t want to!
Willow grinned widely when Char answered her question and returned it to her. She thought for a moment and then signed back, after a little bit of having to think about it. It didn’t come quickly to her. But she was working on it! *I’m good!* she said, beaming. And then she pointed at Char. She was good because she was with one of her favorite people! She wasn’t quite sure if that got across but she hoped that it did! She couldn’t figure out how to sign that just yet. So the charades would just have to do for that one.
Char asked if Willow wanted to see what she was working on and her eyes went wide a moment before she was bouncing and clapping, and nodding as well! She really did, when didn’t she? Of course! She was excited to see what it was that Char was working on and be able to actually see it, to be able to see the things that happened so long ago! It was wonderful, and the little girl had no idea she was learning, but that was good. Well, good for everyone in a way, except for her tutor who kept having missing pupils. Oh well.
