It was way too hot today. Hot enough that Raine had debated just staying in her air conditioned dance studio back in town rather than heading back to the Academy. It was too hot to even walk that little bit and she was feeling way too lazy to move, which despite her being a dancer who was constantly active did happen, quite often in fact. She didn’t have to be active all the time, dancer or not thank you very much. But all the same, she knew that she had to. She had class later that night and also if she didn’t go back Seph would be worried.
And Raine was doing her absolutely best not to worry her best friend and roommate at all. The girl had enough on her plate, she didn’t need to be panicking because Raine didn’t come home on top of it all. And being that Seph was rarely leaving their room except for class or the odd run to keep herself in shape and appease the beast inside her, she always knew when Raine was late, and Raine adored Seph fully, so she didn’t want to worry her. Which was the main reason she was currently bothering to deal with the heat and go out there.
First though, she ducked into the changing room to change from her sweaty dance clothes to a midriff shirt, that was loose and easy, a black bandeau and a loose and flowing blue skirt. And her beanie as well. That and the ever present black ballet slippers, because she was always wearing those really, they were easy to slip on! And they were called ballet flats which entertained her. Because there was no way you could dance in those things.
All changed and happy, the young woman headed back towards the school, eyes closed and humming along to the music in her ears. Maybe if she ignored the heat by focusing on her music it would just go away. She doubted it but it was rather entertaining to come up with the thought and focus on it, it made the walk go by just a little bit quicker. It did make her happy that they lived in the night, it was so much hotter during the day, with the sun beating down and making a vampire’s life miserable, the night was so much better to be living in, in the summer that is.
It didn’t take too much of a walk to get back to the Academy, the Sector was big but her dance studio was near to the Academy which made it easy for her to run from her dance class to her actual classes which some days, with her schedule, she did need to do. Right now she was just glad of it because it made it easy to get out of this heat quicker! She purposely took the route that would lead her into the secret entrance by the east wall, because of the tree there.
For a moment, Raine stopped and paused under the tree, taking a deep breath and being happy of the shade, sun or not the shade was always wonderful and being under a tree was always cooler for some reason she didn’t know. And didn’t care to f ind out. Raine leaned back against the tree, closing her eyes and taking that moment. Though, lately she avoided taking these moments because she didn’t want to think, the cheery happy dancer had too much going on that was unlike herself that made her not want to stop and think.
Easton was back, which was wonderful and she couldn’t ask for more, really. They had both done things that they regretted while they were apart but at the same time that made it easier to forgive the other. She didn’t want anyone else but him in her life and was glad that they were right back where they were, happily. But that was just one thing in her life that was back to being happy. She still had Seph to worry about, and though she was helping Lightning try to piece that back together because she had done all she could, she still felt like not enough was being done.
And then there was her father. She didn’t want to think about that. Didn’t want to think about how she would soon be ripped away from here, back away from her home and over to the other district that she had grown up in. But she was doing it because she had no other choice, she did it because she wanted to keep her mother and her sister’s things and if she didn’t go back her father would take that away from her, and she couldn’t stand to lose those because they kept her so sane.
Besides, she supposed that she should go and see her father. The man was dying, and he was her father so she should probably go and say goodbye, though part of her really didn’t want to. He provided her with money, and he expected things of her all her life that she couldn’t rise to. He made snide remarks about her being faulty because she had no affinity, and he never even really looked at her because she looked exactly like her mother, she was the woman’s spitting image. So not much motivation there.
She opened her eyes and, well, a distraction was presented to her! Which she was grateful for. No more thinking for her, thinking was not something she wanted to do. She wanted to keep her happy thoughts up and going. Though, this was not a happy thought she was currently having. Right now, seeing this person, she was slightly annoyed. Justin Flyte had been one of her closest buds, they were good at being totally nuts with each other and bouncy and happy.
But the last time she had seen him, he had growled at her. Growled. She did not approve of this, they were supposed to be friends! She huffed and, without a second thought, she pulled her ballet flat off her feet and chucked it, right at his head. Because she could.
