It was more than true that Holly put herself in a position where she had to act like Bailey’s protector and sometimes, admittedly, even her mother. It wasn’t that Bailey was any younger than her in years or that she acted as such but ever since the takeover, Holly had simply taken the initiative to step up and protect them. Bailey was all she had left in this world and the closest thing to a family she’d probably ever have again. They loved and protected one another. Holly just tended to let her overachieving personality take over and go into overload in order to make sure that always remained that way. Holly would easily give up her life for Bailey in a second if such a choice ever came up. The only problem was that Bailey was so stubborn and just as protective of her that she worried she might someday feel the need to do the same. Holly desperately wished she could make the other girl see that it was her place. Holly had always been the good friend and influence that Bailey’s parents appreciated. Long before the takeover, Bailey’s mother had spoken with Holly privately about always protecting their stubborn spitfire of a daughter who had a heart bigger than anyone out there. Holly would always protect Bailey as if she were her family because in this new world that was exactly what she was. Today, however, was not about anything other than letting off some steam and having some much needed fun outside of their duties in the camp and their constant worries about survival. Today was a day to get back to the friendship they valued above all else by letting loose. To do that, Holly planned a small day outside of the camp with Bailey. She’d already told Theo her plans but got his assurance that he wouldn’t worry because Holly could handle herself. She’d been learning a lot lately about defense and she was making sure to take weapons to protect them. She just hoped he would keep his promise and that no one would follow them out there because of his tendency to worry. Holly and Bailey shared a small house-like dwelling that was very small but comfortable enough for them. Holly got a few things ready for the day and then went to wake up Bailey. “Wake up sleepyhead. It’s a fun day not a lazy day.” Holly already had people covering their workload for the hour or two they’d be gone and had arranged it so the people who were doing so were well compensated for their time. She had every angle and area covered so this day could be special for the girls. They needed a day to relax, especially since this particular day was so unbearably hot. Thankfully her plans would fix that little nuisance. “It’s pretty hot out today so I think you’ll like where we’re going, but you’ve got to get up and get dressed now. We’re leaving camp for an hour or two. It’s about time we had some best friend time, don’t you think?” She gave a little wiggle of her eyebrows before giggling lightly under her breath. Getting a chance to get out and just be friends and not survivors for a little bit made Holly excited. It wasn’t like they got to have leisure time all that often. There were always things to do around the camp and Holly tended to participate in as much areas as she could. She was the designated ‘odd jobs’ girl. She had a hand in various things around the camp even if she preferred sewing, cleaning, and medical the most. She was known for her constant ability to pick up anything that needed doing without any complaint, even if others didn’t enjoy those jobs. Holly rarely complained and always took on more than she was required to. She felt a sense of duty to the camp and the people of it which was not going to go away anytime soon. She left to get her pack and make sure she had everything for the third time before returning to Bailey a few minutes later. “Ready to go, Bails?” WORDS: 701, TAGS: Bailey, NOTES: woo! |
