Laevinus’ expression spoke of a deep, unfaltering focus and frustration; he remained eerily still as he read the thin sheet of paper of which sat, untouched, upon his embellished desk, fingers curled into irritated fists, knuckles whitening with the intensity of the motion. Other living beings had never, truly been of Laevinus’ concern—he conducted his life in a fashion of which he felt was necessary, and gave little care to those of which mulled about him, as he did so. But, see, when the ancient individual began his reign as Monarch, that aspect of his life took a very abrupt, and infuriating change. For the first time in Laevinus’ life, he was forced to take on the matters and issues of his “people,” and solve them to the best of his ability.
It was absolute, fucking bullshit.
» Not the task in itself, per say, as Laevinus was resourceful and had exceptional work ethic, when motivated—the requests and concerns of the masses, however, were the things of which irked him to a point nearly unnecessary. Did they strive, to provoke such anger within him? If his loyalists were made purely of imbeciles, such as was apparent in nearly each and every letter he sifted through, then, surely, his race would be doomed to fail. The thought, regularly, would have caused a smirk to flit upon the man’s lips with its pure and utter absurdity, but on this particular occasion only left him with a begrudging bitterness, his lips pursed, brows knitted together in deep disapproval. He could not make everyone content, and he knew that—in fact, Laevinus truly gave little concern towards his people’s well-being, as long as they believed he was trying his best. But, they all seemed to think contacting the Monarch was the solution to every single, bloody problem, from “my pet has disappeared,” to “my husband is cheating on me.” Laevinus was not god—although he viewed himself at similar status—and thus, could hardly solve this pointless mound of nonsense. It was a damn-good thing he had others he could pass the papers onto, despite his extreme distaste for handing away his responsibilities.
» With that thought and a curt shake of his head, the vampire eased himself from the seat that was tucked into his desk, expelling a large, relaxing breath as he did so. Lately, his mind had been so preoccupied with the responsibilities of his position, that he’d hardly had the time to visit town, or meander the halls in search of entertainment. He was hardly lacking as far as constant sex was concerned, of course, but Laevinus missed the thrill of the chase, of which only time could allow of him. When he was preoccupied, he was forced to rely upon the women of which were easy and willing, and thus no challenge was to be presented. He was satisfied, certainly, but not as completely so, as he may be, should he have the time to hunt after more challenging, impish prey.
Ah, the preposterous tales of his odd sex life.
» With a subtle shake of his head, the man proceeded towards the large window of which adorned his wall, palms falling flat against its sill after opening it, this allowing himself to lean against it in a rather tired, weary fashion. It was an ill-fitting action for Laevinus, the resilient Monarch, though he gave such a thought little concern. He was in his lonesome, and thus didn’t need to bother with flirtatiousness, or appearing to be confident and suave.
Or, he thought he was until the familiar sound of nearby, beating wings roused him from his thoughts.
» His eyes, a pallid celadon and therefore displaying his lack of current bloodlust, flicked pointedly towards the window as a hawk, brilliant and in its glory, landed upon the sill, a note tied to one of its lean legs. Immediately, a devilish little smirk curved the man’s lips as he pulled the note from the bird’s body before shooing it off, his fingers working to swiftly unravel it. A simple note, but one holding enough meaning to intrigue him, indeed—surely, this matter was of some importance.
» And so, Laevinus did what any intrigued man in need of entertainment did—as the note suggested, he made his way towards the Council room, hands falling flat against the oak doors as he shoved them open, his small smirk still entirely present as he made his way to the head of the table in order to slip into his seat, allowing himself to marvel at what power such a chair inspired within him. It was truly magnificent, how far he had come—from a lowly gladiator, to monarch.
What a wonderful ring, such words had. [/style] to the rhythm of war drums. [/style]

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are Shiloh did so love her job. She had been living her job for much longer than she had actually been assigned it after all. In a way, one could say, she had been born into said job. She had been doing it all her life. Not the spy part, but the other aspects of it…pretending to be someone she wasn’t in order to fit in with a certain crowd, changing her mannerisms to fit in. Back then it had been a point of survival. Back then it had been the only way she ever felt whole, like she belonged somewhere.
Now she did. Now she took pleasure in knowing huge parts of the monarchy would fall apart without her. She knew that most people would deny that. They would say it was the Punisher and his hunters. Or the Tracker and his crew. But where would they be without the Informant and her spies? She made sure no one could keep their dirty little secrets for too long. She sniffed out the traitors before they could bubble up. She even kept tabs on most of the Council Members themselves. She insinuated herself into multiple groups throughout the sector.
Fuck, she was even enrolled at the academy for cripes sake.
She was good at keeping track of which disguises went where, and which names and stories she used. She wasn’t like some supercomputer who kept track of it all. Shiloh might have a good memory but even she didn’t have a genius brain. She had an actual computer and a notebook that kept track of that shit. It was a little less safe than keeping it in her head, but she had it on the highest authority that no one would spy on the spy. Or they wouldn’t have the use of her services anymore.
He was also the one person she wouldn’t spy on. Another part of her deal with him for her job. She had been working for him a long time and she knew that the deals where sacred and what kept this gig going for as long as it had, so she kept up that part of the bargain and he didn’t spy on her in return or out who she was. She valued her privacy very highly, so she could manage to value his. Though the curiousity killed her sometimes, she learned that if she asked she might get an answer.
Anyway, she had gotten some damned good information for him. It pleased her to no end, made her giddy. She loved knowing things. She had sent Archimedes to him with her note to meet him in the Council room and then had set about getting herself changed for their lovely little encounter. She just plain couldn’t wait! She grinned and looked around her bedroom like a little kid in a candy store. Because she lived alone she had another bedroom dedicated to her clothes, because she had so many different types to keep up with her disguises.
But today she was going as herself. Such a wonderous little thing. He knew who she was, so few people did these days, so she could go as herself. It made her laugh outloud. She barely knew who that was, herself. She enjoyed the words though, enjoyed how they sounded. Shiloh had never figured out who she was, despite being over two hundred years old now. It didn’t bother her most days. Other days…well…that was when she got a bit mean. And she was tough enough that mean wasn’t good for those around her.
She pouted a little and shook that thought off.
She whispered to Siobhan, her closest friend and prized peregrine falcon, to meet her at the Council room and knew she would be waiting in the rafters for her. She wished she could walk with her baby, but it wasn’t going to work out that way. If anyone saw the Informant with Siobhan, they’d know who the Informant was. Because Shiloh, as herself, never went anywhere without her falcon.
Back to picking her wardrobe it was then.
Shiloh had a little bet going with Solana, the only other person besides Laevinus who knew what her role was, that she could get Laevinus to kiss her, and thus knock himself out. So she figured why not play on that today? She had to deliver news but it was always fun to stir up a little trouble in the process if you asked her. Besides, it was no fun to be all work. She enjoyed getting her chance to play perhaps just a little bit too much. She grinned widely and peeked around her wardrobe, trying to find something suitable. And eventually she figured it out. Wonderful. She grinned wickedly and started at herself in the mirror before nodding. This was good.
Moments later she had covered her revealing outfit with a robe that went down to the ground and whispered around her legs like smoke as she walked, and had a voluminous hood that hid her face. Behind that she had glasses to hide her eyes, and a mask to hide that, with a voice changer hidden over her throat to change the tones of her voice. She took no chances when she was going out in her role.
As she walked through the streets, people scuttled out of her way and it nearly made her laugh but she was trying to play the role of the Informant so she kept her composure as she walked. People might not know her identity, but everyone knew the Informant was the masked figure, the robed figure, and most kept out of her way. Either out of respect or fear and she didn’t care what it was.
Soon enough she was at the council room, she flung the doors open and entered, closing them behind her. She saw Laevinus already waiting. He was sitting at his seat which made her laugh slightly, the noise distorted by the voice changer over her throat and then she dipped into a low bow—what a man would do—but flourished her arms out like a curtsy. She enjoyed hiding her identity, and even her gender, far too much.
She waited for his indication that they were alone and would continue to be so before she’d remove a single thing that hid her identity. She valued her privacy over even the life of those she cared for. TAGGED: VIN - WORDS: 1074 - MUSE: EPICAL - OUTFIT

The art of battle is a contradictory one, wreaking such malicious hostility whilst also bearing the innate ability to invoke a sense of absolute, insurmountable satisfaction. It was a perplexing thought to say the least, such adverse emotions blooming in the wake of an act so brutal, so barbaric – and, yet, the fiend found himself lacking any form of surprise with the revelation, the sadism of the current generation having made itself evident long before his years of reign as Monarch.
It had been an exceedingly bothersome fact initially, when Laevinus had stumbled upon the idea that he would be forced to fight in order to earn the right to his existence – but, as with most things, such distress was soon to wither with the numbing, deadening effect of reality.
Now, reminiscing upon the pathetic areas of his life, the man found himself unfathomably disconcerted, nearly aghast with the level of which he had changed. It wasn’t alarming, per say, but simply intriguing; Laevinus had begun as all children do, contrary to popular belief. He had been of pure mind, soul, and heart—he had been an innocent. But, the cruelties of the planet had easily succeeded in robbing him of such youthfulness, such untainted happiness and contentedness.
And, thus, his transformation from seraph to glutton had begun.
The hellion did not seek pity for this fact, nor would he ever; instead, the man used it in ways of which would place him within a spot of victory or advantage. The world had made Laevinus an exceptionally hardened, rugged individual – but, he had benefited from it, learned and accepted that each and every being upon earth held the capacity to shift into a malevolent, pernicious being. Because of this, the vampire had led himself to believe that he was safe, shielded from weakness and vulnerability by thick layer of spite and vulgarity. His animosity, his malice; it served as a shield, warding off all things emotionally agonising. Physical pain was not an issue, for the Monarch – it never had been, and it likely never would be. He had become easily accustomed to it. Emotional pain, however—that, Laevinus refused to cope with.
Smooth lips parted in order to release a thick, slow breath as the able-bodied man made his way increasingly closer to his current destination; the council room, a beacon offering momentary relief from the tiresome work of which had been previously entertaining him. The halls appeared rather desolate at this time, muted and ashen silver in color, though it was hardly the dull scenery of which drew the vampire to the room – but, rather, the Informant requesting his company.
Battle was a brilliant thing, certainly; but, it would hardly be as such without Laevinus’ employees.
Spies, Hunters, Trackers; despite the fact the Monarch acted as though he could go on without them, they had long proved to be a needed foundation. During war, it had been these groups that had led to such an astounding victory and, even now, they continued eager pursuit of the dwindling enemy. Without such followers, Laevinus would have a very different view in regards to war – and, he was well aware of this fact, despite often seeming otherwise. Needless to say, when the leader of one of these operations contacted him he put time aside in order to see them. He was not eager, nor was he in any way submissive in such a manner—but, instead, simply longing to please.
Additionally, the Informant was a rather ravishing woman – which, in turn, resulted in an immediate fire within the man, his veins humming with anticipation and raw excitement. Shiloh reacted particularly tauntingly towards any sort of advances, though seemed to be a rather promiscuous creatures—surely, she would only take a wee bit of coaxing.
With that in mind the man entered the council room without the slightest hint of hesitance, body rigid and stiffened even as he lowered himself into the seat at the end of the table, pallid eyes flicking towards the door and lingering there, as though willing his company to waltz in on-cue. He despised time-wasting and did not grasp the concept of patience—a trait Shiloh was, unfortunately, very aware of. The King’s jaw flexed with the idea, shoulders flexing and rolling within their sockets in attempt to ease tension.
And then, he waited.
It hardly took long, surprisingly enough; before the man had enough time to consider growing irritated, the doors before him opened to reveal a very familiar cloaked figure, her gentle laugh—having been lowered several octaves—indicating that it was, truly, Shiloh. His soft lips curled, very subtly, as he regarded her with raised brows.
If only she had chosen a more... revealing disguise. Shame.
“We’re alone.” The man murmured in response to the lingering, unrelenting silence, tone reassuring and yet firmly so. He had no interest in comforting the woman, but simply appear as though he was truthful.
He would never expose her, as she would merely do the same to him. It was a gamble, truly, to associate himself with a woman so deadly.
And, yet, it merely added to the thrill.

And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are There was no one who knew her could deny that Shiloh was a wicked woman, doing things for her own gain. And Laevinus’s because he had given her a place, and as long as he didn’t oust her from that place, she had no intentions of playing her very dangerous hand right back at him. She had made this clear when they had started, when she had first presented her skills at his feet and had become one of his council, slowly amassing her spies until she had a web so thick and intricate it rivaled any spider’s.
She made it very clear that as long as no one knew who she was, as long as he didn’t take what was now hers away from her, she would happily help him keep the world she ruled in line. She wouldn’t need much convincing to do that being that she stood behind him without a second thought. Why? Because deep down inside Shiloh had no idea who she was, where her place was, and as long as she was the Informant she had a piece of that.
Speaking of being the Informant, she had a bit of news that practically made her giddy she was so excited to share. But she would happily hold that back as long as she pleased. She knew the Monarch was far from a patient man and it amused her to toy with this, repeatedly. He needed her knowledge and the pretty little jewels her spies gathered that she wove together until it made sense, he would get it when she decided she wanted to share. He couldn’t rush her or she wouldn’t give it to him. Was it wise to bait the man who had the whole world at his feet? The man who ruled the world that she lived in? Likely not.
Not that that stopped her.
Perhaps it was the deal she had with Solana that made her truly giddy. The idea of taunting and teasing him with her body that she knew he noticed. How long would it take to get him to try and kiss her? As long as she played her cards right, not too long. And then he’d be out cold and she’d win the bet. That made her grin too. So far she had kept herself from falling into Laevinus’s bed, though his skills were legendary from what her little birdies told her and she knew he’d be a damn good lay, he was gorgeous. She had done it because it gave her that bit of respect she craved in the Council Room. It kept her from being just another woman he had slept with.
And because it was just sorta fun to toy with him.
But enough lagging. There was a fine line as to how long she could play with his patience and she knew it. She had sent off her precious Archimedes to get him and it wouldn’t be long for him to get there. She donned her usual disguise and off she went, loving the way that people parted for her like the red sea as she walked through the Sector. Either fear or respect, it didn’t matter. All knew the masked one was the Informant. All knew she knew their secrets. All didn’t want to mess with her so as not to have them revealed. As if she had time for that, peasants.
She nearly snorted with that thought but kept the persona until she reached the Citadel itself, she didn’t live too far for the sake of convenience getting to or from meetings. She knew a few even lived in the palace itself but she needed more privacy than that. And once inside she walked until she got to the Council room itself, throwing open the doors before her with a little more gusto than perhaps she needed to, but oh well. She did as she pleased and that was all there was to it!
She grinned when she saw him sitting in the seat he always took, and laughed though the sound was weird and distorted even to her ears, hiding her gender in its tones. She was used to it, though. She always wore it at meetings and changed the tone from time to time. He let the silence linger between them and she arched a brow, though he could not see it, she knew. She waited, she would not move until she had the all clear to disrobe and she would not talk to him in this guise when she had so carefully chosen her outfit.
And then he spoke, a murmur, telling her that they were alone. She turned, locking the heavy doors she had just entered, not to lock them in of course but to keep others out. She was going to disrobe and she would not have anyone knowing it was her. Oh some would assume she was Ariette, her usual disguise in the Citadel, but some may have seen her enter here as the Informant and she would not take that chance. She then strode, even and clear steps, to the table.
The glasses were lifted from her eyes, to be placed evenly on the table. The hood was taken down to reveal the mask which she pulled from her face, the black fabric clinging to her hair until she reached up her hands to run her fingers through it, making the long black strands fall evenly down her back again. The voice changer was plucked from the coat’s confines to be sat next to the glasses. The gloves came off, as did the extra add ons to her boots to make her a tad bit taller, though she already stood at an impressive height for a woman of her time.
And then finally off came the coat. She unbuttoned it, slowly, and then flung off the mass of cloth to flop it down carelessly on the table, to reveal the woman underneath. A bandeau was the only thing that kept her decent as she wore a shirt that couldn’t be called that, being that it was entirely see through and her shorts could hardly be called that they were so short. But it had been chosen, specifically, for this purpose. She smirked and walked around the table until she could perch, happily, on the table in front of her chair at the left hand side of Laevinus’s own. She could fight and often did, she had killed often in her past, but it made her feel a bit more secure to be closer to him, to know if one of the other Council members decided to try and rip off her disguise in a fit he was near enough to help stop it.
”Wonderful” she purred, happily, in her own voice. ”It was getting hot in all that shit” her laughing tone said, as she leaned back on one hand, the other absently combing through her hair. She knew she had news, she knew she was purposely trying to bait him with how she looked and she knew he wasn’t patient.
But all of those things just made the meeting feel like it would be that much more exciting.
