Cris got dressed the way she did to alienate her mother. In a way, it was fun. Pick the corset instead of the tank top to use as a bra because it pissed her off. Pick the shirt with the saying she couldn’t stand, that was slightly see through to show off said corset. The military jacket instead of her denim jacket because while the bitch hated her denim, the military one bothered her more. Make sure to take off said jacket at the house because it would show off the mark that she liked to pretend didn’t exist.
Go barefoot, but that was more for Cris’s comfort. She notoriously hated shoes. Wear the torn up jeans because they really made her mother wince. Not only were they jeans but they also had the audacity to be ripped. The spiked jewelry just because it pissed off the woman, and the goggles to hold back her bangs out of her eyes and make her hair flair and show off the improper ombre of blue to purple she was currently sporting. She’d eventually dye it back but right now it amused her enough to keep it around a while longer.
And the fingerless gloves were more for Cris. It helped keep her affinity turned off.
So why go to her mother’s house? The house she had grown up in which had remained unchanged because of her mother’s willingness to sell out her own species in order to stay on top? And then proceeded to show just how much she hated the race she had sold out to by disowning her daughter when she had the audacity to make the change into one of them. Well the answer to that was simple, but at the same time it wasn’t really simple at all.
The simple reason consisted of the fact that she had left some of her things in her old room in her haste to get out of the house the last time. In retrospect, maybe she shouldn’t have been so hasty and she could have avoided some of the hurt that she had had to deal with that night. But anyway, it didn’t matter. She had left things there and she needed to get them back, because they were fucking hers thank you very much. Her mother didn’t get to keep them. So she was going to get them, on the surface.
On the deeper level, she was going back in order to prove that she could. Because that was what had started this whole ball of shit, she had wanted to prove she could go back home without losing herself. And she had quite obviously failed that, but she wanted to show she was okay enough now—after falling apart completely in two or three different ways—to go and get her stuff and come back. It wasn’t like she was staying, she was just going to get her shit. That was all. And then she was going back to the Academy.
And it hadn’t gone badly, honestly. Mostly because she just let herself into the house, went up to her old room, an d started to gather her things. No one was home when she started, and by the time her mother came home she was too busy trying to make it seem like she was “allowing” Cris to get her things to really get any real damage done. They got into a bit of a spat and her mother looked at what she was wearing distastefully—much to Cris’s pleasure—and that was about that. It was a success all around.
Would she have liked to have fought with her mother a bit more?
Fuck yes.
Was she sorta glad it was easy enough?
Pretty much, fuck yes again.
And with an armful of shit under her arm, she started to head back to the Academy. She had planned on meeting Lux off campus, but she had to get her shit dropped off and pick up something—er someone very special first. He could wait. Besides, he knew her well enough to know when she had informed him yesterday that they were going to hang out after she got her shit from her mother’s house and hopefully escaped unscathed from the clutch of that demon woman, that she’d be a bit late. She tended to be.
The young Crimson woman grinned as she walked down the street and carefully adjusted the goggles on her head slightly so that they sat where she wanted them to. She was happy to hang out with her best friend. She was ignoring all of her other friends really, though she wasn’t saying that out loud. She just didn’t feel like getting hurt, and subconsciously Cris had linked close relationships with getting hurt. Though that was nothing new, she had done that for most of her life as Crissatha Pandora. Lux just somehow always managed to escape that.
And when she did bump into the Brat Pack, she was perfectly clear to act exactly like herself. Because she was. She was fine. She was herself again. She was determined to be, because she had to be. And if she was a tad bit more icy well that was okay by her, it would just fucking mean she wouldn’t get hurt again. And she was good with this. But she wasn’t thinking about that bullshit. She pushed it down and kept moving. Today had been a win, so she wasn’t going to think about the bull.
She made it to her room, her new single because she had just needed to be on her own and also after being home, her claustrophobia was a little too high for a roommate. And immediately was greeted by exactly who she was here to pick up. She bent and grinned, holding out her hands for the purring monster. ”Hi baby” she said softly, reaching out to scratch behind the ears of Chii.
Okay, so maybe bringing her adolescent black panther cub with her to the stables wasn’t a good idea, but she wasn’t leaving her baby behind. She had had her cooped up all day. Besides, Cris had introduced Chii and her mare, Shadow Steps, when Chii was tiny, so they got along well enough. Cris tossed her junk on the bed and scooped up Chii, who automatically wrapped her legs around Cris, like a baby on her hip. She’d get too big to do this with soon, but Cris was a crimson, she’d carry Chii around as long as she could.
And they were off.
It was a few minutes before Cris was at the stables, where she had said she’d meet her closest friend. Normally Cris rode alone, or with Justin from time to time, but her best friend was her favorite riding partner really. It was relaxing, they both did it, what better way to hang out?
The girl slipped into the stall of her black and white mare, setting down Chii on a stool just inside and giving her the look that told her to stay, which she surprisingly did. It was always up in the air whether or not her baby would listen. Then she shrugged and went about brushing her Shadow, waiting for Lux. Who was probably already here somewhere but Cris was too lazy to fucking look.

Marluxia stood in front of the mirror and raked his hands through his hair. It was looking impeccable as usual but that was because Marluxia had always taken good care of it. He hadn't felt like himself lately though. He hadn't felt like himself which was something terrible within in it's own. Marluxia was extremely vain, he loved himself but lately, he was lacking in the love department. It was so unlike him and he was not sure why. Instead of trying to dwell on it though, he figured some time out would be a good idea. It wasn't as if he was spending all of his time cooped up in his room, he did have some conquests. He smirked a little bit at that and looked in the mirror again. He brushed his hair a bit and then stepped back to fix his button down. He was going out, which like he had mentioned was just what he needed.
Not only was he going out though, he was going out with his best friend. He loved Cris, she was awesome. They had been friends for ever and he very rarely got to see her. Well that was before, Before when she had been constantly surrounded by those friends of hers and that boyfriend of hers. Well, ex boyfriend now. Some shit had went down, shit that she still hadn't told him all about but something happened and she and he had broken up. He did something to her and it made her upset, upset the the point where she was back to the old sleep with everyone possible.
He didn't mind it really, it meant that he got to spend more time with her because she didn't want to spend any time with them for some reason. He really was not going to ask her why she didn't want to hang out with them. He figured it had something to do with what happened, but what problems she was having with her friends were not his concern. The problems with the guy though, those were the problems that he was concerned with.
He frowned at the thought as he pulled out a black vest from his closet and slipped it on buttoning up all the way. He was the real problem here, because he was the one who hurt her. He had done something to the point where she had come running to him broken. Her eyes had been lifeless and dull. It had hurt him to see her like that because she was his best friend. His only friend really, but that wasn't something he was worried about at the moment. Either way, Cris he was worried about and he hoped she never went any where near that guy again. If he had anything to say about it, she wouldn't be anywhere near him. She hadn't tried since then as far as he knew, but it had been awhile since he had seen her.
He was going to enjoy himself today though. At least he hoped that they enjoyed themselves. He was getting dressed so that he could go to the stables because today they were going riding. He grinned a little bit at the thought. He grabbed the riding boots that he had for just this occasion and slipped them on. Most of the time Marluxia was way to busy with his instruments to go and visit his horse that he often went to go and see. He loved this horse, She was a beautiful dark horse and she rode like a champion. Sometimes he thought that she was smarter than he was. At least that was some of the things that he told her.
He brushed his hair one last time before he left the dorm and began walking out of the dorm so that he could go and meet her. The cold night air was hitting him and blowing his hair back, making him brushing it entirely counterproductive. He sighed and kept walking. He wondered if maybe he should have just stayed home and played his guitar, or done some homework that was sitting and becoming a growing pile in the corner of his room. He should go see Cris and have a good time and he should go see Mercy, that beautiful horse that was waiting for him. He was going to see them and that was that. He sighed a little bit as he walked thought. His heart didn't seem to be in it. He was not sure what was wrong with him but he hoped that it got fixed fast. He shook his head as if to shake away any clouds or anything that might be flooding his head.
He smiled when he saw the stables in sight and smiled even more when he saw that Cris was in fact already there standing at the end of the stables with her own horse. She had not seen him yet so he thought that he would go and say hello to Mercy. He slipped into her spot and stroked her hair gently. She looked beautiful today and he smiled widely and kissed the side of her face and stroked her some more. She was beautiful. He smiled and then pulled her out and walked over to where Cris was.
"Hey, ready to go? The horses seem like they are."He smiled over at her. He hoped that she wouldn't see that he was pretty off at the moment. He didn't really want to talk about what he didn't know was wrong with him. He mentally shrugged and just hoped that she wouldn't ask.

Cris slipped off her spiked jewelry and set it down next to Chii on the bench when she had entered the stall. She enjoyed the spikes but she wasn’t going to go near her mare with that on, she thought it was bad. It was bad enough that she was absolutely not wearing anything appropriate for riding in the first place, with her jeans and her lack of shoes. She wouldn’t accidently go around stabbing the poor horse with her jewelry while she was at it. Shadow already had to deal with Cris not being able to wear the right things.
Chii played with the jewelry that Cris set down and Cris couldn’t help but smirk slightly, watching the baby play. She set about weaving her two colored hair into a French braid as she watched. Cris always did this to her hair for gymnastics or for riding, so she could do it without putting too much thought into the action and she could let her mind wander, though that was something that was dangerous for her to do these days. Her mind was not a good place for even her to be in, not with the thoughts she was having lately.
Everyone else—except Lux who always saw right through her—might think that she was okay, but she was far from it. She was just damn good at icing up and pretending to be. Though hanging out with Lux with her animals would probably do her good. She tugged a hair tie from her wrist to secure her new hair style that would hopefully keep her long hair out of her way and pet Chii absently, who paused to purr before she went right back to what she had been doing before Cris had interrupted her. ”Silly baby” she said softly, and then turned her attention back to her horse.
Cris set about getting Shadow’s tack and getting her lovely baby ready for their ride. She hadn’t been here in a little while, a bit over a week which she didn’t like to do, so she knew Shadow needed a good walk, despite that she knew the stables would exercise her because Mellie paid for her boarding and paid well for it. But all the same. Cris felt better if it was her taking her out. It just made her feel more responsible and contrary to popular belief, Cris was good at that.
It was right after she finally got Shadow ready to go that she heard her best friend outside of her stall. She grinned over at him. But then nearly frowned a bit. Something was off with him. She knew it the moment that she looked at him, it was the thing about being so close with someone. You knew when they weren’t okay even if they tried their best to hide it. She could tell with one glance that he absolutely was not okay right in that moment. And being that he had just helped her when she wasn’t okay, it meant that nothing was going to deter her from doing the same.
He was smiling but that meant absolutely nothing to her. She was watching his eyes instead. But instead she smirked a bit. ”Jeez, and I don’t? she teased him when he said that the horses looked like they were ready to go, and then shook her head. ”Just a second” she spoke once more, tugging a line from her back pocket. She hated doing this but Chii couldn’t come along. She would be amused in the sstall but she could also climb, and often would after Cris. She murmured sorry to the little baby who was too distracted playing with Cris’s jewelry to notice and slipped the line around her neck and tied it to the stall so the baby panther couldn’t go far.
And then she turend back to her best friend. ”Ready” she said, leading her mare from the stall to walk alongside Lux. Even though she was separated from him by a horse, that wouldn’t stop her from talking to him. She was pretty certain that he probably didn’t want to talk about what was eating him, but she was also pretty certain that she did.
She would wait to spring it on him for now. Until they were out on the trails and they were at ease, so she could sneak it in and maybe get an actual answer from him. Besides, she didn’t want to start off on a sour note. Cris was avoiding all her friends except Lux, so she wanted her time with Lux to be more at ease. That didn’t stop her from fulfilling her best friend duties of course, but she wanted to at least have a few moments where they could pretend everything was okay.
Who ever said Cris wasn’t a dreamer?
She snorted and walked Shadow out towards where she always mounted up and then did so. She found her seat pretty quickly being that she had been riding since she could walk, before that if you counted when her siblings would sit her on the horse with them. It was as easy as could be. The only reason that she didn’t keep up with riding horses and went on to gymnastics in the competitive spirit was because of the time she had been flung from the saddle and onto a nail.
She grinned over at Lux, both of them out of sorts or not, she adored riding almost as much as she enjoyed playing music with him. Almost. ”So, I bet I’ll beat you again this time” she said in a sing song tone, speaking to the last time they had raced. To be fair, she had started before she had said go but she was always doing that. He should be used to it by now. She would keep her questioning about his mood to herself… for now anyway.

When Marluxia was younger, he had many riding lessons. His parents were well off, and even though he was much closer with his mother, both of his parents thought he would do the best if he excelled in everything and he had already excelled in music. Most of the time when you think of horse back riding, you think of little girls who do it because of the fact that they want too or their parents made them. Marluxia was of course definitely a man, and even though it had been initially his parents idea, he had fallen in love with riding the moment he had set foot in the stable. He fell even more in love with it, when he met his first horse and went riding with her. After that? He had been sold.
When Marluxia had first started riding, he would skip school and go to the stables instead. He would take his guitar with him and play music for his horse hoping that the horse would enjoy it. He had just been a little kid then but the memory itself made him smile. He did all sorts of things then, he rode the horse he took care of it. He did whatever he could for it.
Things changed though as he got older, things became different with his parents, he saw his father even less and his mother and he got closer, and of course then they moved. Once they moved Marluxia didn't really go riding anymore, he was adjusting to their new life and he was trying hard to just focus on his music, then he was marked stopped speaking to his parents and then of course, they died. That had thrown him all out of whack, He ended up going to the stable once or twice but, it wasn't enough for him. He had a horse there but he didn't visit enough. Perhaps it would change, perhaps it wouldn't.
Since he had been feeling how he had been feeling lately, it was more likely that he would end up at the stables. He felt very free when he rode a horse, and it might help him feel better. Riding with Cris was always a joy even though she always cheated when they raced. He rolled his eyes a little bit. As he thought about that. He was worried about her, being that she still hadn't told him exactly what happened that night she had showed up broken in his dorm room. He wanted to know, but somehow he didn't think that it would be the talk to start out with since they were supposed to be out today to have a little fun with each other and not talk about unfortunate things.
He had walked up to the stable, knowing that Cris was already there but he wanted to see his horse first. He had gone over to Mercy and he just stroked her, stroked her softly and hugged her. He loved this horse, not as much as he had loved the one he had when he was little but he still loved this horse, and he wanted to take of her and show her love. Show her that he cared about her. She would be the only female in his life that he would be committed to, unless he counted his instruments or Cris. That was different though, Cris was his best friend and that friendship was easy to maintain.
When he had walked over to her, with his horse in tow, he had spoken asking her if she was ready because the horses looked like they were and she had scoffed at him asking if she didn't he shook his head "I didn't say that."he said quietly. He sounded off to his own ears, he knew that she was noticing it. She had too, she knew everything about him. Perhaps she was doing him a favor and not saying anything about, if he so he would do the same. Nothing wrong with sweeping everything under the rug, right? Right.
She said just a second to him and then kneeled down tied up her baby panther. He adored this animal she was awesome, but letting her loose around a stable full of horses seemed like such a bad idea. He smiled and followed her out when she was ready and just took a deep full breath of the fresh air around him. This would help him feel better, he knew that it would. She mounted her horse and strode up beside her and did the same.
He adjusted himself and patted Mercy gently on the head. She seemed to nod a little bit and then just stood there waiting to see what he was going to want her to do, she was such a good girl. He noticed that Cris was grinning over at him and he smiled a bit because she was grinning, she said that she bet that she would beat him again this time and he grinned and laughed a little bit. Of course she thought she would, she was the one who cheated.
"Think so huh?....I don't"and with that he grinned and kicked lightly on Mercys side, he made a clicking noise and with a big Ya!, she started riding off, he was holding the reigns tightly, let's see who would win now.

Cris felt like she had done something epic today. She had gone to her parent’s house and took back the things she had left when she had stormed out of there a few weeks back. She had gotten the things she had left behind in her haste to escape. And the best part? No one had stopped her. She had been able to go in, get her things, and get out without much incident. After dressing purposely in certain ways to try and aggravate her mother, it was almost a bummer that nothing had happened but she wasn’t looking a gift horse in the mouth.
Now, she was doing something even better. She was going out riding with her best friend, which she absolutely loved doing. She loved to ride and she loved to hang out with Lux. In fact, right now, he was the only person she was really hanging out of her own free will because she was ignoring just about everyone else. Lux she just could never seem to shake and never wanted to. He got her, it was easy to be around him because they just knew each other so well that it was effortless. So, he realized she was still off. She could deal with that.
SShe headed to the stables and disappeared into Shadow’s stall, along with her baby Chii, to take care of her mare and get ready to tack up so that she could head out. She didn’t know if Lux was here yet or not because she hadn’t checked but she would eventually or he would find her because that was just how they worked. She had to check on her horse first, then she would worry about finding him. She grinned when he appeared and had joked because she and Lux always joked with each other. That was just how they were as friends. If the other couldn’t joke back that was when they knew that something was wrong.
So, when he said that her mare looked ready to go and she joked asking if she didn’t or something and he didn’t joke right on back or tease her she frowned. Well that just plain wasn’t normal and she didn’t approve. She shook her head and looked up at him, trying to keep the frown out of her face. Okay, so she herself was still off but that didn’t mean she couldn’t realize when he was too.
She shook her head. She’d wait until after they had their fun before she got into that sort of thing, before she badgered him into telling her what was bothering him. Because she was going to get it out of him if it was the last thing that she did. She hated when he was off, and wasn’t it a best friend’s job to get that sort of thing out of the other and help fix whatever it was that was pestering them? Usually by threatening to hurt whoever was the offender. In Cris’s case anyway.
Anyway, Cris decided to just let it go for now and went back to getting her horse ready to go and tied up Chii so that way Chii couldn’t get out of the stall. She kissed the top of her baby’s head, hating having to tie her up even if she didn’t even notice that she had been tied up. Likely, Chii would be distracted by the bits of Cris’s jewelry that she had left behind in the stall and never even notice that her mother had left her behind—Cris had only brought her out ot get her out of the room and get some fresh air. But still, Cris was a bit of a worry wart over her baby.
She let Shadow out of her stall and then mounted up, sitting there and waiting for Lux to do the same before she started to head out. She wasn’t sure what trail they were taking and it didn’t matter. They usually raced and laughed and amused themselves. Cris rode with other people from time to time but there was something about riding with her best friend that made it a lot more fun to her. They were just nuts together.
And because something was wrong, it was a good chance to get out and get distracted,a nd also get him to talk once they finished riding and racing each other. She knew they were likely taking the trail that lead to the clearing they liked to hang out in, so that meant that she would have plenty of time to pester him about what was making him such a grump and so slow to laugh. She liked to think she was entertaining enough to at least get a real smile, thank you.
She grinned at him and informed him that she was going to beat him this time, again. Leaving out the bit that she knew she always cheated, by starting before go. He laughed a bit and she felt like that was a big win in itself because he had seemed so off and she grinned wider. But then he took off without so much as a warning and she was laughing loudly. ”Cheater!” she yelled after him and then off she went after him, riding low on Shadow and being determined to catch up to him.
This was what they both needed, it seemed.
