And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are
Under the guise of Ayasha, Shiloh Ariette DeMarco lazily popped yet another bubble with her gum before sucking the green substance back into her mouth to chew at it again. She sat perched on the back of one of the garden’s benches, as alert as her hawks and falcons for all that her every posture suggested a laziness that was unmatched by any other. It was a skill she had learned in her two hundred years of life, how to look entirely lazy, like every muscle in her body was loose, but not miss a single thing that was going on around her.
She guessed that was just what made her the Informant.
She grinned at the idea, but was quick to once more dismiss it. From behind hazel-green contacts, her eyes scanned the garden. She had a meeting today, hence the guise of Ayasha. Ayasha was her personality that stood for The Informant’s errand girl, the only one who did the errands of the Informant besides her birds. She was the one that recruited her spies, and passed on any messages too sensitive for the birds to carry. Of course, Shi was a bit of a control freak…no one was going to pass on those messages but her.
Her long hair had been darkened, a few stray strands falling into her face, a face where she had used makeup to enhance the native sharpness of her features that her Native American mother had passed down to her. A loose gray shirt with a kiss smack dab in the middle, in black, and black cargo pants completed the look. Ayasha’s look was the epitome of easy and laid back, which was deceptive being that the personality that Shiloh had developed for this persona was so nothing of the sort.
She had to be, to be the messenger.
People overlooked the lazy ones that appeared to be teenagers though, it made it easier for Shiloh to do the job she had set out to do if no one was bugging her. Lazily, the girl who appeared no more than her mid to late twenties, which would be the age she claimed in this persona, popped yet another bubble. She was here on relatively amusing business at least. This wasn’t some secret top mission, or her recruiting a new spy for her own personal army. This was more so Shi could get out of the house.
Plus, sometimes she just enjoyed delivering messages and missions herself. She had enough birds to do the job, but from time to time, doing it herself was more amusing. And she figured handing out this particular mission would be relatively amusing enough. Enough to put out of her mind the political intrigue of Ariette, the fear of Gekek, the schoolwork of Keme, or the sheer amount of info that she herself had to process when she went home to sleep and worked out what was right to keep to herself, what went reported to Vinny dear, and what she would use later, for her own amusement.
Orchid was one that Vin had sent to her, to test out. For her affinity of course, that was usually the case when Laevinus decided to send a request her way. Of course, she got final say in the matter. Despite him being Monarch, the spies were her division of their own little world. She knew who would make a good one and who wouldn’t. She had seen enough mettle and mischief in Orchid to approve it though, after a few weeks of watching to make sure, and had—under this very guise—presented her with the job. That affinity was exactly why Shiloh would be careful at this meeting, of course, but knowing the quirk was half the battle to protecting against it, wasn’t it?
It made her giddy to have her own little section of their world really, when most of her life she had been shut out of all worlds, just because of her mixed heritage. How boring.
But at any rate, she had sent out a message to the young spy—young was relative for Shi, to her just about everyone was young. She was over two centuries old after all—to meet her here, in Luna Gardens. It was always a risk coming to the citadel in other personas than Ariette, but she had faith in her deceptive skills, and so far no one had noted a damn thing. The chick was late enough that it was starting to seem like she was gonna be a no show but that didn't mean she was going to bounce, sometimes her spies just got distracted.
And so, Shiloh popped yet another lime green bubble as she set about waiting, appearing ever so bored though she was far from it. This chick had another hour before she found something more interesting. And then the chicky would be in trouble. But Shi was patient for now, as she waited. Popping another lime green bubble.
She guessed that was just what made her the Informant.
