Raine was sorta nervous, which was weird for her. She was never nervous. Or at least, she tried to never be nervous. Why? Because nervous wasn’t happy and she always wanted to be happy if she could help it. She was more the type to laugh, smile, play off things and babble too much than be nervous. But, she couldn’t help it! Maybe if it was anyone else she wouldn’t have been. Well, that’s not true, she’d likely be nervous if it was to Seph too, which she still needed to do. But first thing was first.
Raine had to see her boyfriend.
She had missed him so much, going a day without seeing him had been too much. She needed to see him again. She had read all his letters, of course, but she wanted to hear it from him really, though she wouldn’t push if he didn’t want to talk. Raine never pushed. And besides, she could always talk enough for the pair of them if it came down to it, Raine had a habit of using ten words where someone else would only use one. She couldn’t help herself, she liked to talk!
And she did need to talk. It was time she spilled things about herself too, after he had been so brave to, even if it was in a letter. And she had more to share with him then just what had happened since he was gone—though she did have plenty to talk about with that too but she didn’t want to, what if he got mad?—and that was why she was nervous. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and nodded. She could tell him because she had to. She had to tell him all of it before her father dragged her back home.
For starters, it was time she shared the name she had been born with, how she got her too many scars, all of it. She wanted to tell him all of it. Even if it wasn’t who she was anymore, she wanted to. He deserved to know it all. It was almost a weight off her shoulders to decide that she had to share this with him. She had to. She loved him, and she loved him so much that she wanted him to know it all. It was time she sahred it all. She nodded slightly to herself.
Oh but what if she said something he didn’t like? Like she doubted he’d like what she had done while he was gone. She bit her lip. And then shook her head, her blond curls bouncing about as she did. It didn’t matter, she had made up her mind and that was that.
And moer than that, she just really wanted to see him. She missed him so much, it was like a deep dark ache in her heart not to be near him. It wasn’t as bad as it had been before she had seen him again by the East Wall, but it hadn’t entirely eased yet either. It was like she was afraid he’d disappear again. But he had promised, and she believed him. Because she trusted him and had such faith in him, letters and all. It didn’t matter to her. None of it did. She just loved him, the thought made her smile.
So the nutjob, having decided this, pushed herself out of bed and stood, stretching out her muscles as she did. She was ready to go, having made her decision. And as such, she walked over, kissed Seph’s cheek, because she was still asleep and Raine adored her best friend, and plopped Nightmare—their kitten—down on her bed from where he had been curled up on Raine’s.
Then to get dressed.
Raine frowned, she wanted to get a bit more dressed up. Usually she didn’t care, she’d bounce around in her dance clothes and as long as they covered her scars she was pretty happy. But she just wanted to look pretty! She tugged on a pair of woolen stockings—both to cover her scars and for the cold—which was followed by a skirt she had bought when she had gone well, erm, binge shopping with her daddy’s credit card. Which made her feel a tad bit spoiled but she had been mad at him so she was spending his money.
She winced. Nope, that didn’t make it sound much better. Once an Upper East Sider…
She shook her head. Nope, she was different now, and that was why she was going to go tell Easton all of it. And talk to him. And kiss him. She smiled then. Oh how she missed kissing him. She tugged on the rest of her outfit, and the necklace he had given her, and her mother’s leather jacket—that her father was trying to take from her—completed the look and she was out the door.
It wasn’t a far walk to the boy’s dorms from the girl’s, but all the same Raine felt like she had gone faster than she ever had. She missed him! And all the nervous thoughts and the doubts were gone, she was Raine back on her face, all smiles and grins, as she bounced over to his door and knocked. She hoped he was in. She wasn’t worried that he had left—he had promised—but she knew he could be off doing something else, who knew?

Another cardboard boxed was full and Easton folded the top flaps down, sealing it shut with clear packing tape. The task of packing up this brother’s things was almost done. Normally when a student at the academy passed, their room was packed up by the staff and their things were never seen again. Easton couldn’t being himself to let anyone else touch this brother’s belongings. No. This was something he had to do himself. He was to blame after all wasn’t he? Easton sat down upon the box that he just tapped shut, put his face in his hands and let out a deep sigh. The exhaustion of many sleepless nights was setting in; his body ached from tossing and turning.
The hot shower right after he gave up on sleeping had made him feel only slightly better and left his body smelling fresh like soap. He rubbed his face with his hands before running them through his still slightly damp hair. It had grown out a bit since he first got back to the academy, the color resembling more of his natural hair now. It was a bit of a struggle to get himself back to the normal routine. He had battled a lot of his own darkness while he was gone, but things had been getting better despite his lack of sleep. That was a good thing, right? He had spent a lot of time up here in his room sketching in his book and trying to catch up on his missed schoolwork. What else was he going to do when he couldn’t sleep? He had made some improvement.
Granted he still looked like hell when he looked in the mirror, but he didn’t feel the uncontrollable urge to feed as often as before. At least when he did, it didn’t feel like he was coming undone. Not like the Crimson days, no he really tried not to fall back into the darkness, though he was so very close to it after killing his brother. So he stayed away from the academy and Raine. At the time it was for the best, or so he thought. There was no way he could come back and risk hurting her anymore than he already had.
Easton groaned and pushed himself up and off the box he had been sitting on. Barefooted he walked over to his mini fridge, yanked it open and pulled a cold bottle of beer out. He had the urge to drown the horrible things swimming about in his head tonight. With almost all of Connor’s things packed up, he didn’t see where it would hurt his productivity any. It let out a crisp sound as he twisted the metal cap off the green glass bottle. It didn’t occur to him out parched he was, until he upturned that bottle pressed against his lips and drained the cool contents down his throat. Easton looked at the bottle momentarily before chucking it at the nearest trashcan and grabbing another before shutting the door of the mini fridge.
Easton took another drink of his second freshly opened bottle and started to make his way back to the boxes. Having the bottle on his lips while moving was a bad idea, as it caused him to miss a box right in this path. To be more precise it was right in his right pinky toe’s path. His foot collided with the sneaky box, causing him to stumble a little, spilling some beer down his bare chest as he recovered his balance. “Fuck!” Easton hopped about on one foot trying to find a place to sit so he could check his throbbing toe. It had to be at that moment that he heard a knock at his door.
He looked down at himself for a split second, beer dripping down his chest and abs, hobbling on one foot and a beer in one hand. Ok. Find somewhere to set the beer. Easton glanced around and found the nearest unoccupied flat surface and set his beer down. He rubbed his foot quickly with both his hands, checking to see the damage. No blood. Still attached. He’d survive. He looked down at himself as he crossed the room to his door, exasperated he just shook his head and reach up to unlock the door. After a few turns of the lock and knob and he yanked the door open. Normally he would check the peephole to make sure he knew who he was opening the door for, but he was caught off guard with his current state. He blinked and it took him a moment to take in the person before him. “Hey…” he said slightly surprised but also very pleased to see her.

Raine was always a bit of a spaz. Always. She couldn’t help herself, it was just the way that she was. It was why she was always talking a mile a minute, she had so much going on in her head and sometimes it just all decided to spill out. But right now she was being a bit of a spaz because she was nervous. She wasn’t sure if she really wanted to spill the beans about her birth name to anyone and on top of that, she really didn’t want to tell him about what had happened while he was gone. But Raine was all about honesty in anything. While she had never really had a relationship before—Raine was a bit flighty and hard to pin down—she knew that while she was in one she wanted to be honest. So even though it scared her, at the same time it made her feel better to know she was going to spill her secrets, it was like a weight off her shoulders. And he had been brave enough to tell her things—even in letters it was still brave—so she had to be brave. She also just wanted to talk to him. She wanted to talk to him and be with him and be around him and oh…that just made a happy little burst of light bloom in her chest, if that made any sense. She had missed him. And she had been trying to behave herself, give him space, all that good stuff…for the past bit. But Raine had no patience and she had missed him so, she had decided she was going to go see him. She just had to. She had missed him so much! She needed to see him and the decision to see him and tell him what she had been holding back made her feel better. It wasn’t a far walk from the girls dorm to the boys dorm—something that wasn’t really smart planning if you asked her—but Raine felt like she made it there in record timing. She practically ran the whole way there though, she was walking quickly and happily. Nervous, possibly could also account for it but that wasn’t the point! She also could go as fast as she wanted and not fall or trip, which helped, but she didn’t know that. Raine didn’t know she had an affinity—she was a fluke if you asked her father, a vampire without an affinity. But anyway! She made it there in record time. She could have closed her eyes and she still would have been able to make it to Easton’s room, she had been here so often after all. But it had been a while and she didn’t feel like accidently walking into walls, which could happen and there was nothing her affinity could do about that one. She heard someone exclaim something the way she had come from and blinked, but decided not to question it, far enough away that she didn’t know what had been said or recognize the voice. The nerves were gone by the time she made it to his door, of course. Now she was just plain happy. She knocked and waited for him to come to the door and blinked when he did. But the moment she saw him, no matter the state he was in, an instantaneous smile blossomed, not just across her lips but across her whole face. It just lit her up, made her so happy. She couldn’t help it. She had missed him! ”Hi” she replied to his greeting, and then in true Raine fashion, one word was never enough. ”Sorry I didn’t call or anything, I mean I just…made my way here. I figured it would be okay. And I hope it’s okay. And…yeah,” she said, with a little laugh. She shook her head and that was when she actually looked at him and blinked. ”You’ve got something on your chest, by the way.” She said, with a giggle in her voice, again, as always. Nervous or not, Raine was usually happy. Not that she minded looking. Of course not. That fact that her eyes had strayed there right after his face was mostly the fault of him not wearing a shirt, not her own fault. Oh no, of course not. Her own thoughts nearly made her grin again. But looking again, she took in that he looked a bit, well, exhausted was perhaps the best word? She tilted her head slightly and then leaned up to kiss his cheek. It was an automatic reaction and one she’d happily do again and again, she disliked seeing him out of sorts. But all the same, she waited to see that it was alright that she had just shown up, and she so hoped that it was. She unzipped her mother’s leather jacket as she did, feeling the heat of the dorms as opposed to the chill of the outdoors and wished she had the Crimson’s ability to shut ou the chill more than her own Azure knack for it. That beautiful smile of hers was contagious, no matter how crappy he felt physically and mentally, that smile made him smile in return. Her voice was music to his ears as she babbled on about being sorry for not calling and all. Easton gently shook his head while she apologized; it was silly she had nothing to be sorry for, nothing at all. Easton looked down at his chest as she spoke, wiping at it with his bare hands. “You of all people don’t have to call when you want to come over. It’s more than ok, I’ve missed you.” He looked up from his chest to her just as he leaned in to kiss his cheek. Involuntarily his eyes blinked closed and his face leaned into her kiss just a little right before she pulled back from him. He immediately missed her being so close to him.
His eyes blinked open and he stepped back from the doorway. “Come on in.” Easton knew that his dorm wasn’t exactly tidy this evening there boxes stacked everywhere. He grabbed his beer after shutting the door behind them and locking it. “Sorry about the mess…I’ve almost got it all packed...” his voice trailed off a little as he looked at all the boxes. There was just a little bit more to pack, but it could wait. Truthfully Easton had no idea what to do with any of Connor’s things. Donate them? Throw them out? Keep them in storage? What does one do with the things that belonged to the brother that he killed? Easton took a drink of his beer and swallowed hard, trying to push down the sudden anxiety of the issue and focus on Raine.
“Here…” Easton helped her slide her jacket off her shoulders, his free hand pulling the jacket down and off her arms before placing it on the coat hook by the door. He took in her appearance and noticed her lack of normal dance attire. “You look nice.” Easton finished his beer and placed it in a near trashcan before picking up his discarded shirt from where he left it on the floor. It was the closest thing he could find to wipe the remaining beer from his chest. So much for the shower earlier, now he would smell more like beer than soap. His shoulders shrugged a little before he tossed the used shirt towards the corner that held his clothes hamper of laundry that still needed to be done.
Now that he was clean, or rather cleaner, he turned towards Raine. “Come’re” He spoke softly hands reached out to grab hers and pull her close to him. He hadn’t been back at the academy for too long but it had felt like ages since he’d seen her last. It was a bummer that they didn’t have many classes together, not that he was going to many classes currently, but it still sucked. He wanted to wrap his arms around her again, he missed her being close to him, there was nothing that could replace the feeling he got with her wrapped up and pressed against him. Easton would take her hands gently and pull her into him so that he could do just that. His face buried into her hair so that he could breathe her in. it was like every tense muscle in his body couldn’t resist her and they started to relax one by one. A small sigh even made it past his lips and he held her.
“I’ve missed you so much.” It was the truth; he wasn’t trying to stay away from her. He wanted to be with her, but there was just so much for him to have to sort out all at the same time. They had so much to talk about, but Easton hadn’t always been the best at talking. With his brother there was never a need to discuss things, but girls were different than guys. Girls always needed to talk about something, not that he minded Raine talking. Unlike most couples, he could listen to her talk all day and never tire of it. He nuzzled her and tightened his grip around her just enough so that he could pick her up off the floor. “It feels so good to hold you.” Easton gently squeezed her before setting her back down and loosening his grip enough so that he could lean back and look at her.
“So…what’s up Buttercup?” He smiled at her, though his eyes looked dreadfully tired. He didn’t want to be a downer while she was here. No, he wanted to enjoy her visit. Hell, if he had it his way they’d climb in bed and never leave it. Words: 787 Muse: Better Outfit: ~*~Outfit~*~Sketchbook: ~*~Open His Sketchbook ~*~ Notes: natm

Oh, seeing him always made her feel so wonderful! So bright and happy and…wonderful. Always, no matter what was going on in her life. Without any sort of exception. The moment that she saw him she just felt so light and she couldn’t help but smile, no matter what. No matter what she wanted to say, or what had been getting her down before. He just had that affect on her. And seeing him smile only made her want to smile more, she was always so happy to see him smile. She couldn’t help herself. She was just that sorta gal.
She had babbled, as always, apologizing for coming over without notice and he said that she didn’t need to call before she came over. Which she knew. But she also knew he was currently going through a lot and she wanted to make sure that it was okay because of that. And then he said he missed her and she smiled brightly again. ”I missed you too. So much” she replied, and it was the absolute truth. And for once that was where she kept it, no long string of babbling words, just that because that was all that really mattered.
When he stepped back from the doorway, she entered, looking around. It was odd to see it as sort of a single and she looked up at him when he spoke. Frowning slightly at the way that he trailed off. She took the hand not holding the beer and squeezed, tempted to go up and kiss him on the cheek again but she left it at that for the moment, leaving it there. She worried about him, being that he was going through a lot. Maybe she should keep her things to herself. Yes. She would rather be there for him right now. That was better.
”No need to apologize, love” she said, squeezing his hand dropping it once he moved to take off her jacket. He slipped it off and she turned towards him, smile back in place but it also was joined by a blush on her cheeks, mostly because he said she looked nice. She looked down at her outfit and smoothed her hands over her shirt subconsciously, mostly because it had been mentioned. She had gotten dressed up on purpose today, because she had actually wanted to. ”Thank you” she replied. I don’t have dance today, so I figured why not”
Raine laughed when she tugged him and leaned into him, relaxing right away the moment that she could be so close to him, her arms reaching to wrap around him. She nearly echoed the sigh that she heard from him, closing her eyes a moment. She could feel him breathe her in and she was doing the same. It was silly, this was something she had done countless times with him, and it was such a simple gesture, but it was one of her favorite things to do, just relax against him and feel okay. It was such a happy thing!
Oh yes, she was so tempted to keep her current thoughts to herself. Maybe she would. She probably would. She just wanted to take the first day to be with him, and he seemed all tired and she was just happy to be with him. She would keep her thoughts to herself. Raine was easy to talk out of anything that was close to serious because she would prefer not to be serious. She was just that type of girl. She had had too much sadness in her past, so she was making her current future as light as possible.
Then the sigh did leave her lips when he said that he missed her, she was so content, so happy, and all it took was that moment. It was silly to think about how sad she had been. Oh, she still was. She still had plenty of demons to deal with and plenty going on. She had Seph who was currently depressed which worried Raine, and her father demanding her home or he would take away her mother’s things and disown her—which she did not want to do. She was not business minded, he shouldn’t try to train her to take over the business. It was not a good plan.
But being right here, and having one thing that had been weighing on her lifted helped to make her feel better. And she needed that. ”I missed you so very much” she answered.
She laughed again when he tightened his grip and picked her up, lifting her feet up and nuzzling happily against his neck. So happy to be right here. Silly little girl was so easy to make happy. She tightened her own grip around him and straightened her feet when he set her back down on the ground, smiling brightly up at him. Yes, s much easier now that she had one less thing weighing down on her.
Oh but he looked so tired. He had made her feel better, she wanted to make him feel better. She reached up to cup his cheek in her hand, just because she felt the need to touch, she had to. Raine was that way. ”What, I can’t just come over because I missed you?” she teased, sing songing and laughing, before leaning up to press her lips against his in a soft kiss. ”Because I really, really, really, really did” she said, nodding a lot for emphasis.

This unexpected visit from Raine was just what he needed to make his night better. Packing up his brother’s things had really been emotionally harder than he had planed on. The lack of being unable to sleep didn’t help him much either. He had to sort what he was going to keep, what needed to be thrown out and what he could donate. The things weren’t his, how was he to decide what went and what he kept? What right did he have to do it after he was the one that killed his brother? It came down to the fact that it was either kill him or be killed and Easton had more to live for than his brother. He had Raine. Connor had become more and more like his old crimson self, it was dangerous, he was dangerous. Just after Easton ended his brother’s life, he truly thought he might die himself, just like he did the first time Connor died. The days and nights ticked by and instead of dying he pulled his shit together so that he could come home and for what? So that he could relive the reality of the horrible thing he had done? No, that was just crap he would have to deal with, he got to come home to her. The girl in his arms, the girl he loved and nothing could ruin that.
His internal worries and rambling all dissolved when she cupped his cheek. Naturally he leaned into her hand and his eyes dipped closed just for a second. They blinked back open just in time for her to lean in to kiss him, a kiss that he happily gave back. Easton shook his head a little and laughed lightly when she tried to pass off her visit as just because she missed him. She was being silly and he knew it, he knew her just a little better than she might have thought he did. Why would she bother to get all dressed up and come all the way over to his dorm if something wasn’t on her mind?
Luckily for Easton he knew a few ways to get her to spill whatever was on her mind. With a grin he bent at the knees just enough so that he could tighten his grip and pick her up. “Oh yeah…you really really missed me?” Easton laughed and nuzzled her again. “I missed you too…I really really did.” While he had a hold of her, he walked over to his bed; it had fresh sheets but wasn’t made up. He smiled at her and dumped her backwards to fall on the pile of soft blankets that were all folded up and waiting to be put on the bed properly. He was on top of her in an instant, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips. There was nowhere for her to go and he liked it that way. A few soft kisses were placed on her shoulders and neck as one of his hands propped him up so he wasn’t crushing her while the other inched up from her waist closer to her ribs. “I think you came here for a reason…” His tone was playful and his fingers threatened to tickle her ribs. “I just might have to tickle it out of you.”
Raine was incredibly ticklish and he knew it and he wasn’t against using it against her. He knew that she was always putting on a happy face even when her inside world was crashing down. He was the one that gave her the perfect tattoo, wasn’t he? Had he been gone so long that she had forgotten how much they shared? His fingertips pressed against her ribs, one rib…two ribs. All the while he continued to nuzzle and kiss her neck and shoulders, trailing from her shoulder right to below her ear. “Or...is this too distracting?” He spoke it softly into her ear, his lips just an inch away. Oh how he had missed teasing her! “Should I stop?” Easton’s hips pressed against her and his kisses got lower as the hand that had been tickling tugged at the neckline of her shirt. It took some will power to not playfully nip at the soft skin of the top of her breast. Be soft. He had to remind himself to be soft with her. This was Raine, this was different and he had to be soft. “Get talking…” He teased “Or I’ll just have to tease you until you can’t take it any longer.” He rested his chin upon his hand that now rested upon her abdomen, looking up at her he waited, his expression a bit serious and slightly worried.
She could tell him anything; at least he hoped she knew that. The letters he had written were a sad attempt at his confessions of his sins to her. Part of him thought it was so cowardly to just write it down, like that’s all he could do. If she would ask him about what the letters contained, he would answer honestly and fully. She deserved the truth, no matter how bad it made him sound. He cheated on her and killed the last to members of his family, his father and his brother. It made him alone in this world; well almost alone…he did still have her. Hopefully that wouldn’t change. “Raine…” He blinked looking at her. “I love you…I know I don’t deserve to, but I do. You know you can tell me anything.”
It was the truth. Plain and simple he loved her and would continue to lover her even if someday she didn’t love him back anymore. She was the one and only, he knew that for sure while he was gone. There was no replacing what she did to him, what she did for him. He wasn’t about to let that slip away because of poor communication, not again. Words: 993 Muse: Playful and then serious all of a sudden. (o.O) Notes: Sorry it took me so long!

It was almost silly how much Raine perked up when she was around Easton. But she guessed that was just love, wasn’t it? The word made her beam even more if that was possible, but it did. She enjoyed that word. She didn’t give it to many people these days, not since the accident that had left her with all of her scars. SO it was special to her and it made her want to just positively beam. Because it made her so happy. He made her so happy. What was wrong with that? Absolutely nothing.
Oh but he looked so tired and out of sorts. She couldn’t blame him, it had to be a lot to come back here and pack up his brother’s things. And then there was all the things he had told her in those letters he had given her. It was probably a lot. So she reached up to cup his cheek because she just had to touch him more than anything else. But also it made her decide that maybe she just wouldn’t get to what she had originally thought she might. She just wanted to be with him, make him feel better.
He did that for her after all, she wanted to do the same for him!
She eeped, just a little bit, when he picked her up but it was quickly replaced with a grin. She had passed off her coming here because she missed him—because she had to be fully honest, so much. That was absolutely the truth, alterior motive aside. But he saw through her, she supposed she should have figured he would but she was pretty distracted herself these days, so that was probably why had caused the slip. He laughed and it made her grin wider, especially when he said that he really really missed her too. She grinned, she just couldn’t help it. Her cheeks were going to hurt if she kept this up.
He dropped her back on the bed and she laughed, bouncing a bit when she landed. She arched a brow slightly up at him but the smile was ever present. And then he was on top of her and she was trapped there but she barely noticed, she wasn’t really” trapped” in the traditional sense anyway. The soft kisses made her eyes dip closed for a moment as she reveled in the feeling of being touched by him, which she always adored. But his words made her eyes open seconds later.
Oh he knew she was ticklish, and she knew she should have found some way to make sure he had never found that out! But here they were. ”Oh you don’t have to do that, dooooon’t do that” she said, laughter in her words, shaking her head as she grinned up at him.
And then his hands were on her ribs and she squealed through her laughter, trying to squirm away from the touch and trying to just plain breathe around her laughter. ”Easton!” she managed through her giggles. She really just was way too ticklish. ”Stoooooop!” she said, laughing all the way, though she adored this, playing and teasing. She adored all of it, tickling or not. His kisses and his whispers made her shiver, and tilt her head ever so slightly when she managed to stop trying to squirm away from his fingers on her ribs.
Though, his hips against hers definitely gave her a totally different happy reaction. ”I’ll taaaaalk, I’ll taaalk, stop teasing” she laughed, grinning down at him, loving being so close to him again, she had missed this more than she could possibly put into words. She had missed being so close to him, being so happy with him. She felt like it had been a while since she had been happy, inside and out, though she still had some dark spots she was trying to put them out of her mind for that moment.
She blinked when he got serious, mostly because she hadn’t been expecting it. She propped herself slightly up on her elbow, just slightly, so she could look down at where his head now rested on his hand, which was on her. She frowned at his words, a rare sight from the bubbly little dancer, but it did happen. Because she didn’t like those words, she reached down to touch his cheek, lightly because she just had to touch him. She wanted to, it always made her feel better—odd duck. She shook her head, sending the blonde curls flying slightly but she barely noticed. She was focused on him.
”Oh…don’t say that Easton. Please? If anyone doesn’t deserve its…well… she shook her head. Raine wasn’t good at going serious, she tended to babble a lot and say nothing even through all those words because she got nervous. ”Easton, I love you. And you deserve more than me, if anyone doesn’t deserve you it’s me and…I mean. I keep so many secrets and I should tell you and I don’t but I should and I was going to but you seem so…you have so much going on I figured you don’t and..it…” she frowned. She was doing it again. She bbbled and spoke a mile a minute and yet nothing of consequence was actually said.
So she took a deep breath and tried again. ”I love you, so much. And I…well you’re the only person I ever want to love, Easton. So…I figure…I should tell you things I don’t tell people, that I keep secret and that’s why I came but….then I just sort of wanted to be here to make you happy. So…..yeah.” she said, blushing. It was a big admission for someone who liked to be flighty, who kept things light and never got too serious. And it made her more than nervous to say it. But she figured…well…if he was going serious and saying he didn’t deserve to love her than he should know she thought it was the opposite.

Easton blinked as the realization that he was the biggest idiot in the world, too wrapped up in his own torment that he hadn’t even given a second thought that she might have things she kept deep inside. He should of known, he should have been paying attention to more than just his own sorrows and trials. Wasn’t that just selfish of him to do? He knew there were things to her that they hadn’t discussed, but it hadn’t occurred to him that they could weigh on her so heavily. His face hid is internal feelings of complete failure and his blue eyes studied hers as she finished talking.
He licked his lips a little and raised his head up to see her better before speaking softly. “Your secrets are yours…I’d never push you to tell me.” He traced little circles on her stomach with the index finger of the hand he had been resting his chin upon. “You can tell me whatever you wish at any pace you wish. It won’t change how I feel about you.” His lips pulled up into a soft smile, a delicate attempt at trying to reassure her things would be ok. Easton understood that telling someone your secrets, those things that you kept hidden away deep inside yourself was exceptionally hard. It took a brave soul to open up to the one you love about things that you’d never tell anyone else. He pushed against the bed pushing himself up and off of her a little so that he could bring his face closer to hers.
“If you what…if you are up for it, we can talk.” He smiled softly down at her before kissing her forehead. To make things a bit more comfortable he rolled off of her and lay next to her, leaving his arms open so that she could snuggle close if she liked. There was just something telling him that pining her down was not exactly the best position for their conversation. “Then…” He grinned and looked sideways at her. “Who knows…maybe we’ll have time to make each other both very happy.” He wiggled his brows a little at her playfully. “I’ve missed you.” He motioned for her to come closer, he wanted to wrap his arms around her and make sure she knew she was safe.
He had been so foolish to be so self-centered all the time, but he was determined to fix that. He would wrap his arms around her and kiss the top of her head to reassure her that she could tell him anything. “What’s on your mind babe?” It was really a huge question and he knew it, there could be so many things she needed to talk about. It didn’t bother him, he was ready. If she could read his letters and still manage to love him then he would gladly listen to her without any judgment on his part too. He owed her that and so much more. He thought it was a little funny she thought she didn’t deserve him, he knew that the truth was it was really the other way around.

She was so happy just to be with him that she herself had nearly forgotten the initial reason that she had come here. The nerves about telling him anything? They were still there but buried down because she was too focused on the joy that seeing him always brought out in her. She was just too happy to be sad. And that was true most of the time but often times when she was with him she was truly happy and not just hiding the sadness behind a wall of happy. She wasn’t quite sure how to explain it but he had always seemed to understood.
She was too lost in the giggles of a moment before when he had been tickling her and the feeling of being so close to him, she barely registered anything else, anything serious. Until he got serious again and then she remembered and she blinked because she hadn’t been expecting it but she wasn’t turning it away either. Sometimes serious was important as much as she hated when it was because she preferred to be the bubbly little dancer that most people tended to see her as when they first met her and for the rest of the time they were in her presence.
She barely noticed he was tracing circles on her skin, she was just so focused on him, on talking to him. Though, to be honest, she likely would have noticed the moment that he stopped. Funny how those things tended to work. She shook her head again at his answer, reaching down to touch his cheek. ”I know, but…you trusted me with yours and I know if there’s anyone I can trust with mine, well, you’re pretty high up that list you know” she answered, with a smile. Always a smile.
Her eyes closed, smile still totally present, when he kissed her forehead. Little touches, big touches, she missed them all and she took none of them for granted. She had missed all of this so fiercely, she felt like she would never take any of it for granted ever again, never. It was too special to her. It had been before but now it just seemed magnified in a way, she couldn’t quite explain it right and she didn’t want to try, it made sense in her head, that was what mattered, wasn’t it? It was to her anyway.
He rolled off her and she laughed at his next comment, grinning brightly at him. ”When don’t we have time to make each other very happy?” she teased in a sing song voice but she liked that plan. She didn’t like the plan of talking about herself but at the same time, she knew she had to and she wanted to . It was a contradiction but it was one she couldn’t seem to help . She knew she’d feel better after she did, that was what mattered. She had read all his confessions, she had gotten through them and though some had made her worried, some a tad upset, and most wishing she had been there for him, all in all she had been struck by the bravery of it, letters and all. So she wanted to be brave too.
It took her no longer than a nanosecond to go over to him and snuggle up close to his side when he motioned for her to come closer. A happy little sigh as she settled her body against his where it always felt like it fit so perfectly. And she leaned up to kiss his cheek. ”I missed you more” was her reply, more teasing to make up for her weird serious note a moment before.
She felt so comfy, so safe, so warm in his arms, it was easy to decide she wouldn’t say a thing but that wasn’t the point. The point had been that she wanted to tell him her life, the parts she kept so hidden. Her turn to be brave and perhaps say things that would make him not like her so much anymore, which was what worried her. But he said it wouldn’t change anything. She’d save the parts she worried about for last, all the same.
She leaned up to press a kiss to the edge of his jaw, where she could, because she didn’t much feel like moving away form him to kiss him properly. It was her turn now to trace circles, as she did across his chest, her eyes closed for a moment before she spoke. ”Lots” she said, with a giggle. One word answer from Raine, it was a rare thing. But it didn’t last long before she was adding in more to that. ”Raine’s not my birth name, you know? I was born Kaleigh Vanderbilt, daughter of Vincent Vanderbilt…who is…um…the governor in charge of the Diamond District, working for the Monarch. And the reason I changed my name” The easiest of her secrets, and it still came reluctantly because at the same time it was harder. A lot of fledglings changed their names, but it still felt weird to share the one that she had given up. And the reason why.
Words: 864 Muse: Good Comments: Weird random admission from Raine lol. She really just wants to snuggle with him and let that be that

Having her snuggle against him made him content beyond words. He laughed a little when she teased about loving him more. It was just like her to reply like that but he wouldn’t have her any other way. It was those moments that they teased and joked that he had been missing so much before, not as much as missing her touch and her kiss…or the way she smile. Ok let’s be honest, he knew that he missed every little thing about her while he was gone…he vowed to not miss a moment more.
Naturally his eyes wanted to slide shut at the soft touch of her lips against his jaw, but he fought to keep them open. He would not fall asleep right now, even when it would be so easy with her snuggled against him in his clean bed. No, he wanted to be there for her, to listen and to support whatever was bothering her so much. Wasn’t that what good boyfriends do? Easton why trying very much to make up for not being so awesome in the past. Tonight he was going to do whatever she needed of him.
His body instinctively shivered as she took her turn tracing circles on his skin. It was distracting, but he wasn’t distracted long as she spoke. It started off in usual Raine fashion with just one word, but she then told him about her name and who her father was. Easton blinked looking up at the celling. Did it matter to him that she had changed her name? not really…many fledglings changed their names upon entering the school. If it hadn’t been for Connor, Easton might have changed his last name when he came to the school. He laid there for a moment and thought over what she had said to him. It was a weird thing to just throw out there…a little out of the blue, but he knew that it must have been bothering her for some time by the way she had been acting. He rolled his head over so that he could lean it against the top of her head a little.
“Raine. I’d love you no matter what your name is.” It was the truth. I name doesn’t make someone love or not love another. There was a quote that he couldn’t fully remember that this made him think about, something about a rose by another name? eh…he wasn’t about to go all nerdy and quote Shakespeare. “You seem much more like a Raine than a Kaleigh…” he was just teasing a little “But to me it doesn’t matter what your name is. You are happy with it and that is what matters.” He shrugged a little, trying not to disrupt her comfort. It didn’t matter to him what her name was, it didn’t change the person she was to him. That was that.
“Many people try and put distance between their family and themselves.” Didn’t he know it. “Don’t be ashamed…the way I see it, you are who you are…clearly being the daughter of Vincent Vanderbilt hasn’t made you a bad person or whatever.” Oh geeze he sure hoped he was coming off right and not making a mess of what he was trying to say. “look…are you suddenly going to be someone else just because you have told me where you are from?” He kissed the top of her head and gave her a gentle squeeze.
So…she was the daughter of some important person whom he’d never measure up to…no big deal. Right? Easton was kind of used to disappointing people, his own father never seemed to approve of him so not like it was anything new. “Raine, I’m not leaving…unless your Daddy kills me.” He laughed and squeezed her again, trying to play a little to make her feel better. “I promise.”

Raine absolutely never wanted to move away from Easton. If she could stay right here in his arms forever she would do it. She had just missed him so much! She smiled so happily as she cuddled closer, so happy and so beaming, she just couldn’t help it! She wanted to stay with him forever if she could and she intended to as long as he didn’t want to leave her. Or if her secrets weren’t too big and scary but she didn’t think that they were too bad really, or at least she hoped as much. She really did.
He was so much to her, she adored him, she loved him. It was almost silly how happy it made her to cuddle up to him like she was right now but it was just serious, she couldn’t help herself. She wanted to stay by his side forever if she could. She nodded a little to herself, as she peeked up to kiss the side of his jaw quite happily just because it was closest and she had to touch, she wanted to ttouch more if she could but she was trying to stay focused on business, yes that she was.
She traced lazy circles across his chest, needing to touch, as she shared her first secret. It was such a small one! One that she shared, quite honestly, with many of others who were here. Many vampires changed their name for some reason or another and she was not alone in that, she knew that. But for her it was important because of the fact that she had done it for the sake of her father. And because knowing her real name made her instantly able to be looked up, easy to see her past life and how she had gotten all the scars that now marred her skin.
He rested his head on hers and a little sigh contently slipped from her lips as she moved closer to him, as if that was actually humanly possible but she just had to be closer, she just wanted to touch him .And the movement after her first admission—which wasn’t such a bad one—made her feel better, made her feel safe but that was something that had always naturally come along with being in his arms more than anything else. Nothing could make her feel better, nothing at all.
She smiled, and her sigh was more relieved this time when Easton informed her that he would love her no matter her name. She was so happy to hear that. It was hard not to beam. He teased her, saying she was more like a Raine anyway and she laughed, a burst of bubbly giggles as always came from the silly little dancer. ”You think? she replied, with a laugh. ”Don’t think it’s silly that I renamed myself after the rain? she asked, more curious than worried about anything with that question. She was just happy that he didn’t seem to mind that one. He spoke and she listened, feeling comforted by his words and his presense and she wanted that to be that, she just wanted to pretend that was all and stay cuddled up in his arms, he squeezed her and she laughed again, when was Raine not laughing? Even when she was sad? Being her father’s daughter didn’t make her a bad person. She certainly hoped not but sometimes she wondered. She knew her father had done bad things. She shuddered lightly thinking about some of the thigns that she had learned once she had left her father’s household and had had free access to find out. [b[ ”Never” she said, contently, answering his question. Though he wanted her to become ad ifferent person and would od anything he could to make it happen, she knew that much. She supposed she should say that. ”But…he wants…I mean…he wants me to go back home because he’s dying so I can learn the family business but I don’t want to because my home is here with you and not with the old man but he’s threatening to…” she paused and took a deep breath, realizing all that had come out in one rush of a word, which wasn’t right. She, well, she didn’t want to think about what he was threatening to do. She laughed though, distracted, when he squeezed her again and peeked up at him. He always made her feel better. She sighed happily and pushed herself up so that she could kiss him softly, and she beamed at him. ”He’d try to make you leave me you know, if he knew about us, but he can’t. Because I’d never leave you” She informed him, quite seriously. She had no intention of ever leaving him, no matter what her father said. That was one thing he couldn’t blackmail Raine into. Never. There was no place Easton would rather be right now than right there in bed with Raine. Even though she seemed trouble about things going on in her life, it didn’t ruin the fact that his arms were wrapped around her, holding her close to him. “I like the rain.” He responded to her thought that her name might be silly. No he loved her name just as much as he loved the rest of her. Her laugh made him smile. How long had he gone without hearing that amazing sound? Far too long.
She stated that she didn’t plan on changing and he smiled down at her but he listened to her next bit of words carefully never letting his soft smile falter. She was talking about having to go away from him; they would have to be apart…again. When she spoke of her father threatening something toward her his body tensed up a little bit. Easton didn’t like the idea of anyone hurting Raine in any way, family or not. He blinked as she kissed him and he smiled down at her. “Babe I’d never leave you….again…” His voice kind of trailed off as he realized what he had said. Easton swallowed and wiggled a little in bed regretting bringing up the fact that he was ever dumb enough to leave her in the first place.
“So you’d need to go?” He talked up his eyes looked up at the ceiling trying to process what he needed to say so he wouldn’t sound like an idiot. “I think your right, I doubt your father would like me much…it’s not like I’m high on the food chain around here.” He glanced down at her smiling a little as he teased about his low social status. “So I bet me going with you is out of the question uh?” surely it was. He couldn’t imagine trying to keep their relationship a secret while so close to her father’s watchful eye. It’s not like she could sneak back and forth between them without getting caught.
He had to be honest with himself, the thought of her leaving him for a period of time kind of made him panic a bit on the inside, not that he’d ever show that panic to her. No it was better if he acted like it was ok, he didn’t need to be making her feel bad for needing to leave him for a while. He was a big boy wasn’t he? He could handle himself now that he was back at home, where he belonged. He took a deep breath before continuing. “Raine if you need to go you can…I know you don’t want too…but I’ll support you I whatever you chose.” He sat up a little propped up on an elbow so that he could look down at her. He needed her to see that he was serious. “Your home will still be here when you get back.” He touched the side of her face lightly. “I promise.”
He would be fine. Right? Yeah he could handle himself. Maybe he’d spend the time catching up on all the school work he had missed while gone or spend more time taking in clients that wanted tattoos. He’d find something to throw himself into; something to distract him from how much he would miss her. It wasn’t like she could call him, or write….or maybe he could sneak up there to see her at least once. Maybe? He wouldn’t really know until it happened now would he? Word: 591 Notes: Sorry it took so long! My muses as being ass hats lately.

Raine couldn’t help how big the smile on her face was when she heard him say that he liked the rain. She just beamed. She did too, obviously, she named herself after it. Or rather, its ability to keep moving, to roll right off something and keep going and not get too stuck in one place for long. She had needed that when she had first made the change, when she had first felt her mark move into action. She had needed that to keep herself from ending up in that bed again, which was where she had spent a year of her life after the death of her sister, practically comatose.
But here she was, talking about her father again. She hated talking about him, he had never really been a father to her. She remembered when she was little, all those stories her mother used to tell her about what a good man he had been before he had had to take over the family business. It was one of the major reasons she didn’t want ot do it herself. What if that happened to her too? What if it broke her and made her a hard person like her father? She would never allow it. She was Raine, the bouncy and happy dancer. She never wanted to turn into a hard person like her father. Never. But what if he had asaid the same thing?
She was distracted by him tensing while she spoke and looked up at him. He said that he’d never leave her, not again and she nodded a little, not liking how he trailed off or blamed himself. She hated seeing him react like that to anything. Raine wanted to bright happiness, lightness, to this boy she loved with her whole heart, so deeply, so much. She hated to see him frown. She shook her head. ”You were doing what you thought was best, Easton. I’d never blame you for it. Never. Not for anything that happened while you were away either.” she said, firmly. She meant it to. Nothing could change how she felt about him, she felt that so brightly within her.
A frown did, briefly, flit across her lips when he mentioned that she had to go. She didn’t want to, she really didn’t. But the idea of losing her mother’s things, her sister’s things… Those were all she had left of them besides the memories and even those were dim and faded with time. She couldn’t lose those last ties to them now too. She sighed and rested her head against him again. ”I don’t want to. And I wish you could come. I just got to be back with you again. This sucks. But…he’ll take away the things my mom left me, and my sister… He’s powerful enough that no one will care that it was left in her will to me… she said, with a little sigh. She knew it was true and she hated it. It wasn’t a choice she wanted to make!
”And, well, I don’t care about how high you are on the food chain! Never have. He can suck it” she said, the smile and the brightness back because Raine was damn good at putting that on no matter what was going on around her. She had practice at automatically putting on the smile and the cheery happy laughter. It was just Raine. It was why the tattoo on her hip was perfect.
She looked up at him when he spoke again, so serious. She closed her eyes and listened to him speak. He’d support her, he’d still be here when she got back. She leaned into his touch when he touched the side of his face, eyes still closed, and let out a breath that sounded like she had held it in for far longer than she actually had, but it had felt so pent up but so amazing to hear him say something like that, something that made it feel okay to go and know she could come back. She still didn’t want to go but…it was good all the same to hear.
”Thank you, love” she said, such a soft and small thing for Raine to say, the girl that usually babbled on and on for sentences and words far more than she actually needed to say. She was the sort who spoke four words when only one was needed but she couldn’t help it, she just liked to speak to fill the silence sometimes. But it was all she needed to say.
And she stayed like that for a while, but hey, Raine had conditioned herself over the years to not be too serious for too long and also she wanted to get off the subject if she could now, now that she had decided that was enough to get off her chest for now. So of course, well, soon she was off doing something totally different to try and put the conversation on happier terms, also, well, she wanted to tlk about something else!
So in a moment she was off his chest, which she didn’t want ot be because she had been comfortable there, and squirming around to show him her back, she peeked at him over her shoulder. ”Guess what?” she asked, bouncing a little before she was lifting her shirt—it was see through anyway so nothing scandalous there, that was why she had the bandeau on under it—and nudging down the waistband of her skirt to show off her mark. ”I got another star” she said, more than a little bit proud.
And sure enough, her mark which had been made up of two shooting stars along the scars of the back of her hip, that raced along the edges, was now made up of three. One of which skirted around the edges of her actual tattoo like a lover. The tattoo that he had given her when she had first met him, the one she was always happy to show off because she absolutely adored it. She beamed a bit. She had gotten it through sadness, she always got her marks through sadness, but she was still proud of it. Proud that her marks said she would keep shining and flying despite the sadness. It didn’t hurt that it included lifting her shirt, did it?
